In the spring of 2012 I was selected as a participant in the 2012 Maine Moose hunt. I had already decided that if I ever went moose hunting I was going to take the Remington Model 7400 in .280 Rem that my grandfather had given me, so all I had left to do was choose the ammo that I would use.
I had already heard much about Nosler Partition bullets use in big game hunting, so I opted for the 150-gr. Federal Premium Vital-Shok Nosler Partion ammo in .280 Rem.
When I initially sighted in my rifle it shot just as accurately as I had expected (It shot about as accurately as the 140-gr. Remington Core-Lokts that I typically keep that rifle sighted in for, and have been generally pleased with in the past. Even better, I surprisingly didn't even have to adjust my scope.)
On the first day I was lucky enough to call out a 750-lb 20 point bull. He was facing me directly, and initially I was hesitant to shoot into his chest from the front (because I have heard of people wounding and losing moose with those type of shots), but he would not turn side-to. It appeared as though he might turn back to run, so I took aim at his neck/chest (where his windpipe disappeared into his chest) and fired. The range was only about 50 yards, but the effect was still greater than I had expected (from other moose that I have witnessed people shoot.)
After almost falling down backwards he slowly stumbled his way back towards the woods. I fired again and hit him near the shoulder, and that shot knocked him over, but even if I hadn't fired that shot he wouldn't have traveled more than about 20 yards. (He only made it 10 yards as it was.)
The bullet had traveled between his lungs, torn most of the blood vessels from the top of his heart, damaged his diaphragm very badly and ended up somewhere in his hindquarters. There was about a cupful of clotted blood behind each lung.
I was very pleased with this product, and its effect, and I will be using it again if I ever participate in another moose hunt.

I started hunting with the smaller 223 caliber and I wanted the most leathal ammunition. So far this ammo has not let me down. All my shots on deer and hogs are through the neck and they fall right there. Shots have been from 60 to 175 yards. No misses, no looking for animals, drt. What else can you ask ?
