Yes, they do work, but even as a machinist I've not always been satisfied with my hook sharpening results with stones and files. If you are not satisfied with your sharpening skill, a suggestion: use Gamakatsu hooks, they are sticky sharp, have never failed me, and don't need to be re-sharpened.

Yes, either pole.A:Â
I am not familiar with ice poles...but it has elastic at one end and a pocket at the other end and a large velcro strap that goes across all the poles in the center1 of 1
