It's nice to have a portable radio around, just in case of electrical interuptions or other unexpected emergencies. This is a good radio. Clear AM and FM sound with being able tune and to do lisenting on several SW bands. Has a "giant" telescoping antenna that pulls in many interesting foreign stations. However, for best reception, an external antenna would really benifit the sensitivity. However, with everything that you get in it's convenient size; AM, FM, Multiple SW bands, and 110VAC and battery operation, its a good value and fun to listen to. Only thing, its not a "ruggedized outdoor" radio so you you can't throw it around, treat it to roughly or expect it to continue to provide good service, if you do. It's not made for that enviornment or use/treatment.
