I bought these to fish for bass with live minnows in the upper Potomac River where the bottom is constantly changing. I bet I have reduced my snags from 8 - 10 a day to maybe 1 or at most 2. I'm happy with the results!

I have been using this hook for many years, I started using them for plastic worms and grubs for bass, and when I started inshore fishing for flounder and red drum, they really worked great. They almost totally prevent loading up with weeds, and prevent snags in the weedy and snaggy areas that you fish for bass. For inshore fishing in salt water, along with weeds, you also have to deal with oyster sheels that are very snaggy, and this hook really does well in preventing snags. When using soft plastics, the barbs on the shaft really help prevent your bait from sliding down and keeps them running right. When I use live bait, I clamp the barbs on the shaft down, and this prevents the barbs from catching weeds. I like having the hook exposed rather than having to pull it thru the body of a soft plastic, if it's in their mouth, the hook is there and ready to be set. These are very sharp hooks, and if you try these, you will be very glad you did. I fish almost every day, and some days both salt and fresh, and this is the hook I never leave home without. They are not cheap, almost $1.00 per hook, but well worth it

This hook works well at first; but it has been my experience that often the weed guard gets bent so severely by just one fish that the guard will not stay in place afterwards. Eagle Claw hooks are the least expensive which makes replacing them a little less painful; but the weakness of the guard is a problem, at least to me.
