The Bass Pro Shops® E-Z Lure Retriever Kit rescues all lure types—even live bait rigs. Its unique design takes it easily past sinkers and hardware. MUST HAVE!! I was skeptical at best before purchasing this product. After reading the reviews, I figured that as long as I save a few crankbaits, it will pay for itself. I am on my second one, the first managed to get snagged in deepwater while attempting to retrieve a DT10 crankbait, but only after it paid for itself at least 10 times over! I did use the line that came with the retriever, but soon scrapped the plastic "reel" that came with it. I simply replaced the plastic reel with an old baitcasting reel I had. I also recommend using an old keychain ring to attach the line to the retriever itself. By the way, only had one lure this retriever didn't mange to get....the last one! Pretty impressive when you have to replace your hooks on the same crankbait you've been using for a year....because you always manage to get it back!! September 25, 2008
must have when deep cranking it takes a little skill trying to juggle the boat, the fishing pole, and this all at the same time. However, that does not take away from the product as you will have those troubles with nearly any lure retriever out there. I've learned to be patient with it and put it on my line when I'm around 10 feet away from being over top of where it is hung up at and let it start down towards the lure while I'm trolling over to it more often than not it will slide down the line and knock the lure free just before I get over top of it. There are times when I have to work it alittle bit more than others just depends on how/what I'm hung on. Sometimes it comes free with just the weight of this come down on it sometimes you have to use this to "hammer" it off by repeatedly lifting the retriever a few feet above the lure and letting it fall. E-Z Lure Retriever Kit I bought this item and it works as advertised as I have recovered several crank baits that we stuck in brush piles while I was trolling. It's one of those items that if you recover just a few crank baits that are snagged you have paid for the item. No one wants to lose a crank bait at todays cost for new ones and while this item is not fool proof this item does a great job abd helping you recover lures and save money. I highly recommended this item. May 25, 2012
If it works two times, it's worth it I picked this item up as the kit with the little plastic reel. The reel was somewhat awkward thus I scored t a 4 rather than a 5. I have since replaced the reel with a very small retractable dog leash and it's more manageable. I would recommend buying the one without the reel. This item has worked for me countless times and yes, on occasion, it failed to get me out of a jam. The bottom line is that 90% of the time it works. February 25, 2012

Most lure retreivers I've seen only work when you can get directly above the stuck lure. Will this one work for shore fishermen?

Yes you can use it from shore. Hold the line tight and the retriever slides down your fishing line. Bounce the retriever until it's chain grabs the hooks on your lure and bring it in.

i have used it from the shore... it might just be me not knowing how to use it, but when i did use it from the shore, it couldnt even reach the lure, and its not because my lure was stuck too far... the retriever got stuck in the rocks itself, so i lost both lure and retriever

I have not tried it from shore. You pretty much need to be almost directly above the stuck lure for it to be effective. If you have this type of condition from shore, it will work good. From the boat, in the wind or where there is water current, this is not as effective.
