Down-East Rod Holders
Designed to allow you to grab the rod and pull back quickly in a hook-setting motion. The die-cast rod holder itself actually opens up when the rod is pulled backwards 3" or more. The Down-East rod holders are adjustable to any horizontal or vertical position and made of high-strength, non-rusting alloy castings treated to resist corrosion.

The Salty S-10 rod holder is great for heavy fishing. Holds up to 1-3/8" diameter rod including rods with triggers or pistol grip. Great for fish up to 85 lbs and holds up to 100 lbs test line. Made in USA.

It does what it is supposed to do This is the first clamp on rod holder that I have found to actually work as intended. Most others have failed to hold the rod steady when a fish hits while trolling, and I have my rod suddenly swing in the direction of the fish. This rod holder has held its position without fail against a multitude of species, including 30#+ catfish. Additionally, I routinely use this in salt water, and I have found the corrosion to be minimal, and have had zero issues with rust. Additionally, being able to lift the rod straight out is a great feature. Overall, this rod holder is the first I have tested that actually works! November 19, 2014
Great rod holders I had a 12 ft aluminum boat and bought these rod holders for them to troll for pike muskie and walleye and they have worked flawlessly. Very durable. I like the fact that you can fish them as down line or vertical. Very versital product at price most can afford. I would recommend them to any that has a boat that dont have large gunnals on them. I am trying to design something so that I can still use them on my new boat this season with larger gunnals. February 13, 2010
Ok This thing is what u want if u have an aluminum boat. The salty is fully adjustable and was down 50+ feet with a dipsy with no problems. easy to use but...... early one morning while setting it up i overtightened the clamp with my pliers and...snap. the threaded rod broke. totally my bad. had to go to brafasco to find the (7/16) threaded rod ($12) and two nuts to weld onto the threaded rod ($2). Greased em up and works better than new. hefty setup!! October 30, 2011
Severe limitations The clamp will only work on a narrow gunnel and the way the rod holder section is designed the rod has to be exactly 90 degrees from the side of the boat. The base mount for the rod holder section also protrudes down more than an inch which prevented it from attaching to my boat. Two small defects but the net result for me is that the two rod holders I bought are now sitting permanently on a shelf in my garage. July 1, 2013

Weighs quite a bit but are solid. Rattle pretty bad with no rod in them. Only set rod 90 degrees to hull. American made.

gunwale useage

Details:
is this designed so i can use it on a boats gunwale ? and when clamped is there enough clearance so the holder doesn't come in contact with the gunwale, i had another model and interferance was an issue.

A:
if your gunwale is bigger than 2 inches it wont work for you. if you worried about scratching the gunwale put a thin piece of rubber under the holder it is cheaper then a rod holder holder.

A:
The S-10 is designed to clamp to gunwales. It has two mounting positions depending how the clamps fit on your gunwale. This design allows for adjustment of the holder without interferance with the gunwale.
Hope this is helpful.
