Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 38 reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Azweedwacker minnow trap I said I would recommend this trap, but not for small minnows. Had minnows in and out of it all night long. April 30, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Taiype Get ready to modify Great trap after adjusting this trap. A lot of reviews have mentioned it does not seal itself once set, this is true. Zip ties and cable ties work, I bought reusable cable ties that are cut to be seamless and I am happy. I would give it a five if I didn't have to work extra. Note you do need to allow the minnows and other bait fish time to get in. I leave this over night and have a great a mount of minnows for three days of fishing. Turkey hot dog and day old break is what I use to grab these little guys. Also if you live in Florida, careful with trapping snakes, aka water moccasin. I actually just added this to my wish list for a second trap. Sick of sharing all my bait lol. January 1, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 Good minnow trap for its price Its a good for what you pay for, I have to use tie wraps to hold the cage in place, it came apart on me one time as I was pulling the line up August 16, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Snakesway2 Very good product This product is a high quality trap. I use this trap to control water snakes and it works along with catching minnows, frogs and the water snakes of course. It is very easy to set the trap up. I really recommend it to anyone who wants to catch fish or snakes ! May 2, 2012

The clip is best changed to one that will look tightly!I have pulled in the rope that holds the trap, and wined with only half a trap! As for salt water, it will last if you rinse it with fresh water every other day! But I have seen them last for years and be all rusted up and still work fine. But if you rinse hem off frequently they should last!

It does in a way! When you separate the two halves, they can fit in one an other if you flip one end over. It kinda looks like two buckets slid in one an other! They actually ship that way.

In the water the minnows cannot get back out because they cant swim strait so they get stuck inside.

This trap is designed to catch minnows and not let them swim back out. Some smaller minnows might get out, it's happened to me, but most will not get out. None are completely fool proof, but this one is pretty close.

A:
These traps are designed to not let minnows escape, much like a crab trap, the opening funnels them into the trap. The minnows will then try to escape by pressing themselves against the walls and because the opening isn't flush or funneling outward it makes it very difficult for them to escape. However, if the fish are small, then maybe the size of the openings(s) needs to be smaller and if there is a current of decent strength then a single opening at one end would work best. As far as engineering goes, this design is probably most successful. Just depends on what size fish and the area your fishing.

none are absolutely fool proof, but this design has been around for many of years. It works pretty good just check it regularly, place it near cover like under a dock or near the edge of the bank. I've had better results than out in open water.

Don't forget to bait the trap. Try a cheap can of fish flavored cat food. Punch holes in the top and bottom of the can and place it in the trap. Make sure your trap is sealed with no gaps so the minnows remain

I would place it in shallow water, if possible next to a spring,or in the weeds, anywhere minnows normally hide from big fish!Probably the same spot where you would use them as bait,is where you should set the trap, you kinda have to think like a bass.I live on the east coast of Canada, not far from my house is a lobster shop, and I usually set my trap next to the discharge pipe where all the minnows are. When they flush all of the small pieces of lobster meat and shells out of the plant.

Try changing the bait because those are prime areas. A good one is on small underwater weed beds.

Depends on a couple of things like vegetation, depth, and soak time. Minnows like many other fish and inverts. feed at night and are instinctively timid. They like hiding places so it's probably best to place the trap near a place where they are normally at or are hiding. Also they are not commonly found in open deep waters most of the time so try to place the trap on the bottom. The most important part is, depending on the abundance of fish, you must "soak" the trap. Once you get the first fish in the trap others will join it quickly (due to there schooling community nature).

If you can get clams, tuna out of a can,oil packed if you can get, bread, crab shells with a bit of meat left on them,or for that mater crushed crabs. I live on the east coast of Canada, and there is a lobster shop not far from where I live ,so I use lobster shells.Anything that will attract minnows,if it's something they like to eat, they will go in the trap!

Anything you have caught fish on. I have baited this trap with bread, corn, nightcrawlers, and cheese, with good results.

Anything, if you've caught a fish on it you can probably use it to bait a trap. This includes but is not limited to crackers, bread, chicken liver, hot dog, chum, and various stink baits and scents. Minnows and other small fish are timid you have to let the trap "soak" for a while (depending on the amount of baitfish in the area). and minnows and such tend to feed at night so make sure the trap is in the water when they are feeding.
The trick is to get the first minnow in the trap. Minnows love to school ,instinctively so whenever one gets caught it's a lot easier to convince other minnows to join it.

Try dog meal or canned corn. Bread or meal floats away.
