If you can afford an Iridium Extreme 9575 Satellite Phone and monthly plan - get that instead. Otherwise the InReach is a much cheaper safety blanket if you adventure out of cell phone areas and still want an Iridium satellite based panic button. The iPhone and Android apps work reasonably though sometimes SMS messages that are supposed to have Lat/Lon end up with 0/0. Recommend just get the device with the basic $9.99/month safety plan - the topo's are worth it but slow to download.

Is there a fee to use this like their is with the spot??Answers
A:Â
Yes, but it is worth it because im a sailor and out at sea I can send and receive text mess. I think the fee is double the Spot but you have lots more to do with is.A:Â
Yes, there is a one-time activation charge of $19.95. In addition, you need to choose a subscription plan that best fits your needs. You can also move up and down between the plans based on their seasonal activity. There is no charge for moving to a higher-priced plan, but there is a $24.95 charge for moving down.Subscription Plans: http://www.inreachdelorme.com/produ...
