Great reel! After discussing reel selection with the pros at the bait shop, I was convinced that the Saltist was the reel for me. Now, I consider myself a Shimano man and still do as about 98% of my reels are Shimano. However, for saltwater applications, I think Daiwa takes the prize. I almost went with an Avet of similar size but was informed that the bearings they used aren't all that great. This reel surpassed all my expectations. Looks great, feels great and is as smooth as butter. I have the 40 size on a Shimano Tallus MH and use it as my Shark/Sturgeon rod. Can't wait to get a downsized version for chasing Halibut and Stripers! June 9, 2010
One of the BEST Lever drags Got the 50 size, use it for bottom fishing for Cobia. Super fast gear ratio, nice casting abilities, holds alot of line, precise drag settings...I can go on and on...the 50 size is about the same size as a TLD 15 but built way way tougher...don't get me wrong, I luv my Shimano's and they are battle tested...but so far, I rank the Daiwa a step above... Excellent This reel is really worth it. There are many things to note about this reel. It's light weight and comfortable in your hand. It's also very sturdy, built to last. The handle is very comfortable. The retrieve ratio is excellent, and the drag is very smooth. This reel can handle all of your inshore and near shore needs and probably most of your off shore needs as well. It also cast very well and smooth. Just remember to set your drag properly, this is a lever drag reel. September 26, 2010
Beautiful reel I have the 30 and it is a lot smaller than most off shore 30's ... however.. It holds a full spool of 50lb braid 300yds. Its light . HAS POWER ! and casts smoother than a bait caster. I absolutely love it. I wonder if my 30 will pull in tuna to 50 lbs... I know I have taken false albies and skip jack to 12 lbs. GUess Ill find out.. Think I may buy the 50 as well... probably more geared for Tuna. Great for jigging and pitching baits. September 6, 2012
