This ground-breaking top-of-the-line braid-running machine features a simple, one-touch gearshift for a choice of power or speed, six CRBB™ corrosion-resistant ball bearings, offset power handle with Soft Touch grip, massive stainless steel gears (helical cut for optimum power and smooth winding), Ultimate Tournament carbon drag (UTD), solid-state one-piece machined-aluminum frame and left sideplate, machined-aluminum spool, centrifugal casting brakes, machined aluminum rod clamp, and precision ratchet anti-reverse. Whether you’ve got four weights spliced and stacked, or you’re shooting single poundage top-shotted with mono, the Saltiga fits the bill. With stunning ultra-modern design and the tenacity of a bull mahi-mahi, this reel will put you in position to take the fish of a lifetime with unprecedented style and power.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Real deal reel! First, I will admit my first Daiwa purchase was a disappointment. I bought the hyper speed real and promptly returned it for lack of cranking power for bottom fishing. However, this two speed reel is the real deal! I did some research on all similar makes and models and what I can tell you is that this is the best dollar for dollar purchase. Granted, I have not fished the other models, but don't feel the need after this one. I have let other people try it and they loved it. In fact one of my buds bought a similar saltist model (black) and he loves his. I would have to agree with one of the other reviews in that when you shift to low speed it does feel like you have lost the fish; just keep reeling or raise the pole. I basically leave it in high speed and reel in slow and steady not to lose the fish and shift down if it becomes a struggle. I use this reel primarily for cod, haddock, pollock in the NE area and has worked out great. It may be over kill, but I also use it for stripper because it is such a sweet reel. It sure does attract some well deserved attention and conversation from curious onlookers too! August 28, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by great purchase this reel is great. It cast super, right out of the box and the drags are smoooth. I am very happy with this product. June 8, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Monster!! I have 4 Daiwa reels and i must say that this 2 speeds is no joke when it comes to bottom fishing. When you are reeling in a fish and drop it down to low speed, it feels like you dont have anything on the line!! The only thing I did pick up on was that the high speed was a little harder to reel compared to my other reels. Im not sure if that is because the reel was brand new!! It is a sweet bottom fishing reel and if I was you i would get one also!! Also I got my 1st Cobia(22 lbs) on it down in the Tortugas and it came up like a yellowtail..!!! October 12, 2011

I was going to purchase Daiwa Saltiga for Tarpon fishing, but wanted to get the right size (line capacity, max drag, etc.).

I live in the Tampa Bay area. Does anybody have any advice on which one to get?

I have seen more and more info on MAX DRAG.
