This reel is a great value at any price. I landed a hawg this morning with the 100PL model (4.9:1) mounted on a Browning Silaflex rod while fishing a Zara Spook and the Lexa performed flawlessly. The high torque gearing combined with the leverage provided by the 100mm handle is perfect for any size crank or topwater and is able to winch in a hard fighting lunker without a hitch. This reel is smooth and refined and the perfect bass reel. I'm sure the faster ratios would work just as well for jigs and worms. It palms well and the brake dial is in a good place for easy adjustment. The drag star is also ergonomic and easy to adjust on the fly when you need that extra drag to haul in your catch.

People get so caught up in the number of ball bearings a reel has and how much it cost when actually there are only 4 bearings that truly come into play with the smoothness and casting distance of a reel. This reel is heavier than others but for good reason, it's built like a tank. Aluminum gear housing and frame, brass gears, and quality bearings. If you leave your reels in the sun all day, the plastic or composites will distort some and could cause issues. This reel feels quality and cast a country mile with 12lb Stren and my 6'9"" Abu rod. I plan to buy a few more and will be a loyal Diawa fan for life. I love my Abu's but the build quality of these is just more heavy duty for me. Now I know why all the old Pros used to rave about them in the 80's and 90's!

Another great reel from Daiwa. My first reel was a Magforce PMA 10, purchased in 1982, and I still use it to this day. This reel feels like it too will last me a decade or more. In the last two months I've had it out for nearly 100 hours, dozens of 3 to 4 lb fish later it's still smooth.

Received this reel as a birthday present this April and its already toast. I maintain my gear, from full strip downs and relubes to not letting them out in the weather.
First problem with this reel is that no matter what line I put on it, I could never dial it in. Top of the line braid to top of the line flurocarbon and even mono.
I set the hook on a stump this past weekend and broke the rod and the foot of the reel. Didnt even set it that hard, both daiwa products.
Came back and ordered another bionic which has been a great reel. A reel at this price shouldnt perform like this one does.
