Daiwa's Emcast Sport Spinning Reel is a smooth, balanced fishing machine with cannon-like castability. The Emcast Sport comes raring to go with a super-smooth 8-bearing system (7 ball bearings and 1 roller bearing) and a large-diameter ABS™ aluminum spool that drastically reduces casting friction and makes for silky, consistent drag function. Each reel also sports Gyro Spin® balancing, along with a Twist Buster® line roller that reduces line twist. The Infinite Anti-Reverse virtually eliminates back play and ensures solid hooksets. I got one half a year ago. First when I got it it looked little bit HUGE. Science then I pulled all kind of fish with this reel. Happy with it. Good product for the money. Just got another one.

This is the biggest 5000 series reel I've ever seen. Don't let the numbers fool you, and be sure and look at the weight. Great look and tremendous retrieve, but the reel actually torques on the foot. Reminded me why I am a fan of metal reels. I don't know what would happen if you hooked a nice size fish, I didn't keep mine long enough to see. I loved the Emcast surf rod, but this reel is a joke. I've had stiffer reels for less $.

Please answer ASAP. My friend who lives in Florida asked me to buy her a new fishing rod & reel combo. I'm planning on getting her a 7' Shakespeare® Ugly Stik® Big Water Spinning Rod. Will this reel pair up nicely with it? I received this reel today, and it seems a bit big, however I'm very new to fishing. Please help! I can return it, but it needs to be fast seeing as this is a Christmas gift. Thanks for the help!Answers

It would be ok with an ugly stick. I've used this reel on the offshore angler surf rod. Honestly tho, I think the reel is not that great. Mine broke and is not very smooth after a few years of use. (and I take care of my stuff)

Depends more on your line weight. With the right line and leader you could cast a 10 ounce weight.A:Â
I guess it is. I've got 6000 my self and I've casted 5oz with it. I think its note only about reel but fishing rod and fishing line too.

This Emcast Sport reel will pair up fine with an ugly stick big water rod but 7-feet is way too short if you plan on fishing from the shore or pier. Buy at least a 10-12 foot ugly stick for longer casting distance. A 7-root rod is a boat length as you won't be able to cast very far with such a short rod.A:Â

The 5500 and 6000 reels are identical in every way except for the inside diameter of the spools with the 6000 having a smaller pit diameter to allow more line to be stored on it. The outside diameters of the spools are also identical both in width and length so it is possible to simply replace the spool of the 5500 with the 6000 and vice versa.The same is true of the smaller 4500 and 5000 size as their spools are also interchangeable with each other. I bought one of each size and keep 20 lb. test mono on the 2 x 5000 spools and 10 lb. test on the 2 x 4500 spools to quickly change line for different fishing scenarios. (Each reel comes with a spare spool).

No, get the 12' Daiwa Sealine surf rod instead - you'll triple your casting distance with that combo.

you could defenitely use this combo, im assuming your talking about the mh rod. considering the line ratings i would spool the reel with 17 lb test if your planning on using the setup for just larger fish, but i might go down to 12 or 15 for largemouth and defenitely 12 for walleye. personally, i would rather have a longer rod if your planning on using the setup in the surf though, like an 8 ft minimum,Details:Â

I believe that using braid on any long-casting spinning reel / rod is a mistake as spinning reel retrieval causes twists in the line and when the limp braid is cast out wind knots easily form. Stick with mono on these type of spinning reels and use braid on bait-casting reels. If you just use light tackle and don't cast very far you might get away with braid on a spinning reel but not on a medium heavy action such as this that might be sending the line out 100 yards or more.A:Â

I use this reel for shore and pier fishing on the river targeting large catfish and carp and it works great.A:Â
This is the reel you want. handles great with salt/fresh large fish. I suggest at least a 7" rod to take full advantage of this reel.A:Â

Unless you're fishing for a whale shark don't use 50 lb. line with this reel - save that for deep sea fishing from a boat with a heavy bait-casting reel. Use 10-15 lb. mono with this reel for best results and that will haul in most fish up to 30-50 lbs if you use a 10-12 foot long rod. Long rods absorb shock better and mono stretches so don't use overkill with heavy test line as that will kill your casting distance. Also don't use braid with this spinning reel as you will get wind knots - stick with mono.
