A:
I can't say a specific brand name, just because much of it is personal preference, I would recommend, a 7'0" or 7'6" rod, light or medium light power, and fast action.

A:
Most reels now a days can handle braid. Just make sure the bail has a line roller (this reel does). And it is usually a good idea to use mono backing.

A:
The one I had had alittle button on the face that stuck out, and the braided line would sometimes start wrapping around that instead of the reel. If I didn't catch it right away, like when your cast lands someplace you want to get out of in a hurry, it would result in a huge mess, and since it was the end of the cast, I would always lose lots of line. Very frustrating.

I surf fish a lot and my reels get dunked in the water while I am putting bait on the hook. Can this reel handle saltwater submersion?

A:
The way I see it, no reel can really handle saltwater submersion (except a Van Staal), some better than others but they will all fall to it eventually, I say if you rinse it off with freshwater, and take it apart every so often to clean it, it will work fine.

Pretty much nothing withing these reels can rust, its all stainless and bronze, so the mission is get the salt out!

A:
Yes. In fact, that has happened to me many times as I like to kayak fish. All you have to do is rinse the reel off and it will be fine. Just make sure rinse thouroughly and oil it properly.

A:
This is a saltwater reel. Therefore, the saltwater should not corrode the reel. Please make sure you clean your reel after use to ensure a longer life. Thank you!
