I would say personally 4 yrs is kind of young for a BB gun due to maturity level, remember a BB gun can still severly injure a child or even an adult I would suggest a suction cup dart gun to practice with, as a former police officer I have taught my girls to respect a gun. the barrel always points at what your going to kill, whether a target or other. My girls are 6 and 11. I started with the basics of knowing the gun first before they were allowed to have one. Good luck

Only under adult supervision would I recommend this gun for a 4 year old. With supervision, I think it could be a very good learning tool for a future hunter.
