The stuff that legends are made of. The dependable design and tradition of the Red Ryder makes the Daisy® Model 1938 Red Ryder® BB Gun America's favorite .177 cal. BB gun. Hardwood stock and forearm.
Recommended for ages 10 and older with adult supervision.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 35 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Gun! I bought this gun about 9 years ago and it still works just as good as the day that I bought it. I would hunt rats, rabbits, and ducks. It has excellent accuracy and durability and I would definitely recommend it for a gift or a beginner gun. It also has great value for it's money, and great power too. December 27, 2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by A Great Piece of History The first one of these I had was when I was 6 or so. By the time I joined the Marine Corps that Red Ryder had been litterally worn out from shooting. When my kids came along they all got one. Now my grandkids are getting them. Just powerful enough to make it feel like a real gun and teach basic gun handling and marksmanship, these BB guns are just about perfect. We have spent countless hours shooting pine cones, cans, and toy soldiers and enjoyed it all as a family. And, like the movie says, wear glasses or you might put your eye out. I can only say that the RED RYDER is a piece of americana that every child should encounter and enjoy. November 21, 2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Gun!!!!!! Great little gun.Larger version of a Buck.Very sturdy, and accurate. An overall good gun!!! May 14, 2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by awsome purchase This air gun is a very good one. it is great for a beginner, its got great power and with good aim you could really injure/kill a varmint. I have used it a few times, the only problem with mine is that i dont have one. I would recomed this to a friend, but be careful with the sight, it can break, what my friend does is he just looks under the first sight, the screw had fallen out. Over all this is great! A:
No, this is not the gun for that, it is not very loud, which is probably the best for scaring deer, but on the other side, practise target shooting from the distance then if you hit it, it will not dare to come back. It will not Pearce the skin for it is only 350fps.

The stated range (max. shooting distance) of the weapon as stated on the box is 195 yards. Obviously this is for safety reasons. At 60 yards I am not sure of the velocity or projectile drop.

I too still have my old Red Ryder BB gun from back in the '50's, and still shoot it on occasion... However, 60 yards is a bit far, and I rather doubt it will have much, if any, effect on deer at that range... A BB gun may very well work fine for your needs, just a "little sting" to get the deer to vacate the area....but, if your distance is 60 yards, I'd suggest getting one with a bit more power than the Red Ryder... I would think that the Red Ryder may work for you out to 25, or maybe 30 yards, but not much further than that.

A:
The maximum velocity of .177 (4.5 mm) bb is 350 fps on this model. This is a single stroke lever action gun. You cannot cock more than one time. There is no way of increasing velocity via multiple pumps/cocking.

The Red Ryder BB gun.......... I haven''t looked to see for sure, but I'd guess in the neighborhood of 300 fps.... And this is a "one-cock-one-shot" BB gun... You cock it once and shoot it, then cock it again and shoot it again... After the initial cock of the lever, it's cocked...and no more "cocking movements" of the lever will have any effect.. After it's cocked, it's cocked... It is not a "pump-up" gun.

shoots 350 feet per second. You have to cock it once per shot. If you keep pumping it, you will not increase the velocity and could damage your gun

My father's Red Ryder had a steel or at least metal cocking lever. I've heard this one has a plastic lever. Which is correct?

A:
When I purchased this gun for my grandson (Christmas 2011) the advertisement read that it had a metal cocking handle. This was not correct for my gun (Red Ryder 70th Anniversary Edition Carbine - Model #991938-793) As it came with a plastic cocking lever. However it has held up during 6 months of regular shooting quite well.
