OK, but.... This is a great idea... and made of thick steel... but.. the concept is based on the theory that the "wing" will force the trailer tongue to the left or right centering it. These lateral forces could be OK if trailer wheels are not tightly chocked. I had a problem with the hitch coupler (part attached to boat) having a fairly wide flange (maybe 5/8") where it returns to horizontal and it jams into the installed part of Couple-Mate when doing anything but wide turns. I removed it some time ago before damaging either the Couple-Mate or the hitch coupler, but you could see where it was eating into the steel when manuevering. Just yesterday I had the idea that I can perhaps remedy this by raising the ball a little using some galvanized washers and a long-shank ball. Since the installed part of Couple-Mate is angled where the interference is occurring, getting the ball about 3/8" higher might just allow a bit more room without metal striking metal in the turns. As one reviewer put it, not really simple to use, but probably helpful if you can get within 2" of your target. IF... I can get it to work and IF raising the ball does not severely weaken the hookup...and IF I spend more money finding a long-shank ball (hate this part since I have 3 of the standard 2" long shank balls already) it may be worth the hefty price and save one trip out of the truck during hookup. To get within 2" is easy if you use the telescopic tennis balls! July 30, 2012
Great Product Easy to install and the best thing is now I can even send my wife out to hook up the boat trailer. :) June 29, 2012
Couple-mate I have used this product for 2 years. Sold my boat and bought another boat, so I am ordering another one. This product is as good as a pocket on a shirt. My brother wants one and a couple of my fishing buddies say they are going to to buy them also. A great product that works very well when you are trying to back your truck up to the trailer by yourself. I highly recomend this to anyone. Well worth the money over the headache of not having one.
