Last summer I decided to invest in a good pair of sunglasses. I wanted an "all-purpose" pair for fishing as well as other outdoor activities, driving, gardening, or just lounging by the pool. I looked at several high-end brands including Oakley, Native, and Smith Optics before deciding on these. Having read so much about Costa's 580G (glass) lenses I decided on these over the polycarbonate lenses. While the lenses are very good, after having these for almost a year I wish I had used the $250+ that I spent on another brand. Below are the pros and cons:
- Very solid build quality
- Outstanding lens clarity
- Good looks
- Fog very easily. I believe this is due to the snug fit. These glasses literally "fit me like a glove" but there is no ventilation. Which leads me to...
- Exchange policy. This fogging issue was very apparent to me from the start. So about 2-3 weeks after purchasing I contacted Costa about how to facilitate an exchange. They have a model called "Brine" that has ventilation holes, and I was hoping that these would work out better for me. I was told that they have only a 10-day return/exchange policy (yes, 10 days!). The rest of the free world offers at least 2 weeks and typically 30-days. So I was stuck with these.
- Lack of versatility. These lenses allow a 12% VLT (visible light transmission), which is outstanding for very bright sun. And indeed this is where they really shine. However, here in Houston we can range from bright sun to overcast to partly sunny all in an afternoon. In these more shaded conditions the tint can be a little dark.
In summary, I think these glasses are good for one thing, and that's being outside in very bright light. The fogging problem I had is not the fault of the glasses as much as just the way they fit my face. So my problem is really with Costa's exchange policy. While they have quality sunglasses, they lost a customer because I'm not going to risk another $260 "experiment" with their glasses.
Additionally, I just had a birthday and my wife gave me a pair of polarized lenses from one of the other manufacturers I had considered last year. After using these I can say that the lens quality is equal or better than my Costas, plus this model allows for changing out the lenses for different conditions. Also, no fogging, and a 90-DAY RETURN/EXCHANGE POLICY! Now THAT is standing behind your product.
I have no idea why Costa will not stand behind their product for more than 10 days, because they are high quality glasses. But unfortunately their policy would prevent me from ever trying them again.

These are by far the best sunglasses, in my opinion, one can buy. As an avid fly fisherman relying on visual spotting of fish the glass lenses are second to none. Much lighter than REVO, frames that fit a big noggin', and they don't slide on a sweaty day, I went in to Bass Pro wanting a solid pair of fishing lenses for around $150 and came out with these costing another $100 on top. But you WILL see the advantages of the extra cost. You can wear in low light conditions and not feel compromised and when the sun comes up they are all that you are expecting. Contrast is amazing and as corny as it sounds they really can be the difference between an HD picture and standard analog.

I bought these glasses in part, due to the lifetime warranty.I hunt and fish on a regular basis along with many other outdoor activities. I had a fishing rod come back and slap across my face and the lens shattered with just a slap. It is not like they were dropped on concrete. So if you are someone who will be hard on sunglasses at all these are not for you. 115$ to replace my 580 lenses. I could buy new glasses of other brands for that price! I did not expect them to replace the lenses for free, but 115 they are definitely making a solid profit from replacing the lens. If you are the type of person will will never put these glasses in harms way. They are for you.

Best glasses I have ever owned. The lenses can't be beat and really like the outward-bending frames for durability.
