Rated 4 out of 5Â by BuffaloTex nice jacket for upland game
wore this jacket for a 3-day pheasant hunt in SD last week. mornings were very cold, so i wore a liner underneath - not bulky feeling at all, and i stayed warm. the collar zips up nicely, and it was nice to have on cold, windy mornings. jacket by itself was fine, too. it would be nice to have hand pockets, but it is not a deal breaker. i found shell pockets to be perfectly adequate - with gloves and without.

I have gone through a lot of bird hunting coats and this one too may be returned.
Upside: nicely constructed, great bird bag access, relatively light weight, real collar, water bottle compartments, hopefully highly water resistant and hook and loop cuff closure.
Downside: single front closure zipper, no shell loops and most important no upper hand pockets.
Why not a double front close zipper?
Trying to get into pockets on a cold wet day with gloves on to extract shells is a pain. Shells in pockets are bunched together in a clump instead of balanced throughout the coat.
Lack of upper hand pockets makes carrying a break-open shotgun much more difficult. The trim on the coat makes it look as if someone thought about upper pockets but no such luck.
