I was mostly impressed by the accuracy of the compass. I have a high quality compass and it was almost spot on with it.
Wish they would add the all weather matches. I ended up buying them separately but I stuffed this product instead with cotton balls.. The best tinder.

Great Multipurpose Whistle
I've been looking for a multi task survival whistle for a while. At under $7 this is the best one I found yet. The Coghlan's Survival Aid (5 in 1 survival tool) says it comes with:
- Waterproof Matchbox
- Fire Starter Flint
- Liquid Filled Compass with Luminous Dial
- Shrill Signal Whistle
- Nylon Lanyard
It's really 6 in 1. Inside the cover they have added a signal mirror. The waterproof match box is good sized and the body is thick, hard, orange plastic. The fire starter flint which is glued into a small groove in the side of the tube (see photo) is small but sufficient to put a spark to tinder. The compass is oil dampened and good quality for the size... It points North which is all one can expect from a button compass. The luminous dial works like most luminous dials... For short time after exposure to light but fades after just a few minutes. The shrill whistle is indeed shrill. The ball inside the whistle rattles around, something most hunters would not like, but that was easily remedied with a short piece of 550 cord (para cord). The lanyard provided was a nylon weave cord that was snagged like a wool sweater gets snagged when it arrived. It was not to my liking so I replaced the lanyard and wrapped the whole whistle with 550 cord. The waterproof compartment is perfect for putting a fire starting kit in. My kit consists of 2 cotton balls with a smear of Vaseline rolled into small foil tubes ( the foil keeps the Vaseline from getting on the other stuff and works as a cup under the cotton to catch the melting Vaseline when lit), 10 water proof matches with the striker and 3 birthday candles in a small zip top bag (found at the local drug store) for extra water proofing. For a small tool it can pack a bunch of stuff. Overall impression is it's simple and well made. It provides 4 types of signal: whistle, flint spark, mirror, and fire for under $7. The one downside was the lanyard... Not a deal breaker but I prefer 550 cord.

A must have for any outdoorsman
This is a great little gadget. Like another reviewer said, the whistle is VERY loud. A great addition to any survival kit.
