I purchased Coglan's lantern lighter as the "trigger" for my son's potato canon. It fired perfectly.
However, when installing the lighter onto the canon I turned the tightening nut too much and broke the brass. We had to buy another (I bought 3 more just in case).

Installed this in my Coleman lantern 34 years ago and it still works like a charm - no troubles ever! Only maintenance it has ever needed is to check the flint now and then and replace the flint when needed
When you know your lantern's knob settings (or have marked them with little dots of silicone seal - 1dot for "light", 2 dots for "run", 3 dots for "tip clean"), you can pump up and light and operate your lantern in the dark without ANY matches or other lighting, just by touch - very useful when camping and vital when you use this for emergency power-fail lighting.
This is the second most useful accessory for a lantern (the MOST useful, IMO, is a carry case)

I tried to use this on my lantern at camp and before I even installed it the striker wheel kept sliding past the flint and you would have to disassemble the flint and spring to get the striker wheel back in its right place. Then after I had installed it on my lantern I was only able to get one use out of it before it broke completely. the striker wheel broke the flint and i had to go out and buy more flints.
