Rated 5 out of 5 by Golden2 Exactly what I was looking for
I like that I can use it in the front seat of my car also, I just fold it in half. It's great in the back seat as I can use it hammock style or not, unzip half of it and cover what is sitting beside my dog with the other half so she can't get into anything. Both sides up as a hammock and she can't come into the front seat. And at an affordable price

First of all, let me say that in my search for just the right thing, I looked at probably every back seat sling and cargo area cover on the Internet, from the cheapest (in both price and quality) to the most expensive, including custom jobs. The Dog About Rear Seat Protector was the only one that had the features, the appearance, the reasonable price, and the customer reviews that met my criteria.
I wasn't looking for a back seat hammock. I have two Scottish Terriers that ride in the back of my car with the rear seats folded down. My 5-passenger sedan is basically a two-seater since my dogs are my most frequent passengers. The Scotties, with their short legs, ride on that relatively flat expanse instead of in the seats so they can see outside and I don't have to worry about punctured leather seats. I do, however, have to worry about dirt. Lots of it. That cute little fringe on a Scottie's undercarriage picks up everything from leaves to sweet gum balls to dirt. A short winter walk along a damp path or through the grass on a very cold day can result in muddy icicles that melt in the car.
Before buying the Dog About Rear Seat Protector, I had spread a thick woven blanket across the folded down seat and put a second one in the pass-through trunk area, so the dogs could have the whole back to themselves without dirtying the carpet. The problem is that my 3 series BMW's back seats don't fold totally flat like they did in my previous car: They lie at a slight incline. The blanket would stay in place until I came to my first red traffic light. When the light turned green and I accelerated--no matter how slowly--the dogs would scramble to maintain their relative position in the car and the blanket underfoot would wind up clawed behind them, so they were standing on the carpet anyway, with the blanket in a wad at the base of the incline.
What I was looking for was a protective cover with straps to hook over the back seat headrests, when the seats were folded down, to keep a cover from being clawed into the trunk. I wanted something that would give the dogs a little traction (the lightly padded microsuede side fit that requirement); something in a gray, black, or muted blue that would go with my car's black and gray interior; something wide enough that covered the folded seat from side to side; something sturdy that would hold up to regular use by my dogs; and something that was reasonably priced for the quality of its manufacture. This was the only product that met all of my requirements.
It's not perfect, but that's because cars come in all shapes and sizes, so for one cover to fit every vehicle perfectly would be unreasonable. I would recommend measuring your car to see if this cover will work for you. For my purposes, it was the best cover available without spending many hundreds of dollars for a custom-made cover. It's wide enough to cover the back seat from side to side with a few inches of drape on either side, but it's about a foot short of reaching the very back of my trunk, so I put my blanket under the Seat Protector to have something in that area. (The dogs tend to stay out of the trunk anyway.) The straps and plastic buckles are about the same thing you find on a dog collar these days. I read reviews that some people experienced breakage with the buckles, but since I will rarely fold the seat back up for human passengers, I don't plan to do a lot of clipping and unclipping.
This is a nice-looking cover. It looks well-sewn and isn't made from a flimsy material. The gray and grayish blue fabric is attractive in a muted way, so it's not shouting, "Hey, look at this dog cover in the back seat," like some others I saw online. I wanted something that would blend in, not something to make a statement. If your requirements for a rear seat protector are similar to mine, then I would highly recommend the Dog About Rear Seat Protector.
