My go-to jig head every spring when the water is rising on The Mississippi River. The walleyes move shallow, generally around rip-rap banks, and if you throw in some laydowns and bushes, better yet. I use the lightest heads that will give me a natural down current drift, and rig up either a tube or a 4" ringworm and cast upstream of my target and let the current wash my offering over and into the cover. Whether it's rip-rap, or bushes, or logs, anything that can provide a break in the current and cover for the fish is what you want. Just rig it up Texas style and allow it to drift into and over the junk, and the walleyes will engulf it. Guys think I'm bass fishing, but the walleyes are tucked in there and they are hungry. After they spawn, I'll use the same technique for pre-spawn largemouths and smallmouths. The key is getting the proper down current drift, and these light heads give it to you. My favorite jigheads for shallow, early season walleyes on The Mississippi River.

Used these in the river to catch the years first smallies. Kept snagging up with tubs even when rigged weedless so I put one of these on with a 4" curly tail and never got snagged again. Caught 2 nice smallies out of the hole I had been working.

Have been using these for years. Have caught more fish on the slider head with 4" pumpkin worm than any I have ever fished with. I go fishing with someone and they say don't you try anything else? I say no use to, This catches me more bass so why switch!

It's like both a texas and a jighead rig. So would this count as a shakey head?Thanks

No not a "shakey head" A shakey head is meant to stand the bait up the slider head, well slides along the bottom or on top of the grass/moss.

Shakey heads are a bit different. Typically a Shakey Head the weight of the jig is underneith the plastic. In this sitution the weight of the jig is in front of the plastic.These were developed as really a small swimbait 30 years ago or so. There are slider bodies that go with them. The thought was you swam the bait back. These can be used on the bottom as well. I wouldn't call them shakey heads though.
