The Day Tripper Paddle from Carlisle is an entry level or backup paddle. Asymmetric blade design with dihedral shape allows for a smooth, efficient stroke. 2 star reviewer said that after using it, it was "Out of Round" in the grip area. They are made this way, so you can tell by feel whether you are holding the paddle correctly. Once you grip the paddle correctly, and the blades are perpendicular to the surface of the water, you can then tell by feel if you have your blades correct without having to look at them.
This paddle is strong, I have used it to push off many times, with no bending or scratching. Lighter is better, but for the money, for the occasional "Day Tripper" these are great. If you are going on long trips, or multi-day trips, spend a little more to get a lighter paddle.

I bought a Carlisle Day Tripper Kayak Paddle and the first time I used it I had a bending issue (out of round) in the grip area. I am not even sure how it happened....just paddling.. I will be not recommending this paddle to anyone.

After only one use, it was holding water inside the shaft. I exchanged it and the replacement paddle leaked and held water also.

You will choose the length of your paddle based upon your height and beam width of your boat. A good rule of thumb is to raise your right arm straight over your head; now take a paddle, stand it on end, and if the top of the uppermost blade reaches the top of your hand, you're in the right ballpark. Of course, this is hard to do when making an online purchase. You should also consider your strength as a paddler when choosing a paddle. Longer paddles put more leverage into each stroke, but require more effort than shorter paddles. Shorter paddles require less leverage and allow for a faster cadence and smoother acceleration.I have provided a few examples of height and beam with combinations along with paddle length below.
