I've had this coat, along with the hood, for 6+ years. It has been put through some pretty bad scenarios and is still in pristine condition. I am a woman working in an extreme male dominated field. I was instructed years ago to go buy the warmest and best stuff I could find and they emphasized that Carhartt should be looked at. With this coat and hood, I have had men I work with threaten to steal it. It is impossible to get cold in this sucker. I've been outside in snow, sleet, rain and cold New England days. I even brought it to Canada and didn't get cold. I love this coat.

I work in the oil and gas industry which takes me all over the world, i purchased this jacket and the acrtic bibs to go with them in light of a hitch in North Dakota through January. With the temps reaching -20 farenheit I never found a time when i wasn't warm and comfortable. I would recommend this gear to anyone who is going to be working or just spending anytime outside in extreme cold conditions.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by AaronandSteph I Love Carhartt!!!
I purchased this coat and the detachable hood for my husband for Christmas. He is so happy! He needed some good winter work/fishing clothes, and he could not be more pleased...and he looks great in them! Very well made like all Carhartt products!

The coat keeps me warm, the fabric can take abuse, the pockets are large and the hood keeps me warm. The Velcro of the hood simplifies securing the hood for warmth. I spend a lot of time out in the cold. I bought the coat in New York 1/2/2008. I hope Carhartt has improved it. Last year, 2009 the cord that goes around the waste to keep the cold out, tore apart. My work around was to thread a new nylon cord into the cord passage. I realized the hard nylon could damage the fabric so I used the plastic locking mechanisms on the cord to hold the waist in a tight position. I wish i had thought to do that in the first place. Today 12/11/2010 the puller on the zip came off. I was able to replace it with a heavy duty paper clip which I bound in tape. I hope there are no more surprises. I still like the product because the outer fabric is so very durable. I don't expect I could find better even at a much higher price.
