I've used mine several times now and haven't found one problem. If you face the base the right way it's impossible for the downrigger to come loose. It would rip the rail off my boat before it came off. The plastic tab on the base looks weak but it's only job is to keep the rigger from sliding backwards, which seems like it would only be an issue while trailering the boat. If your trolling forward then it's impossible to put any pressure on it. I have mine mounted on swivel pedestals and they work flawlessly. The counter works by sliding left or right onto a gear system that allows you to adjust where you want to set it. It takes some skill to operate two riggers at a time especially fishing alone, so if you can afford the electric ones then I recommend them.

Yo Anonymous - They stay onboard alot better if you postition the mount base correctly. You are supposed to mount the base where the open side is either inboard or forward so you slide the downrigger into the mount either outwards or aftwards. There really is no way that they can come out then. And you can operate them by yourself with a little more practice/experience. You either operate the d-rigger with one hand while holding the spool with the other, or if you need two hands for the d-rigger, set your drag a bit lighter so it will let out line smoothly as the ball sinks. I have 2 of these and I can set them both and still steer the boat at the same time. But mine are older and I'm thinking of upgrading to a new set.

I purchased this downrigger to match the first Easi-Troll that I have had for about a year. It works well on my 16' aluminum Starcraft daycruiser. I use a Cannon 8 lb. weight with it.

Rated 3 out of 5 Good while it lasts
Good unit, but is really a two man operation. one to lower the weight, one to let out the fishing reel. Handle is plastic, may break with extended use. The only thing holding the downrigger in is a little plastic tab. I had the downrigger rotated 90 degrees, and the tab broke off and the downrigger went overboard while under power. If you do get this, don't trust the clip, tap 1 or 2 holes for stainless bolts to make sure the downrigger doesn't come out.
