Used extensively on various dry flies, calf body hair is a fine, non-hollow hair that’s shorter and straighter than kiptail (calf tail). Calf hair is an excellent choice for tying parachutes such as the Blue Wing Olive or Adams Fly. It is also the key ingredient in different Wulff recipes.

I bought the calf body hair along with other fly tying supplies because I had a BPS gift card. Calf hair on the patch was very thin, sparse and short. Tried using it for the wing on some Royal Wulffs - very difficult due to the short length of hairs. I usually get my materials at a local fly shop - this is another reason why.

The patch I received had hair so sparse as to be totally unusable.

I found this to be a great material for wings on patterns such as Royal Wulffs. It stacks much easier than the more kinky calf tail, so I would say it is a must for hair wing patterns.
