Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 48 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by slogramp Dry turkey cooker I have cooked turkeys in oil for years and it is a pain and a lot of trouble. Plus can be very bad working with hot oil. I cooked two over the Fourth and all got Raves from people I had cooked for before. I ended up giving my oil cooker away because I already have a fish cooker. You will sell another to my nephew as he always has to have what I have! July 15, 2010
Rated 3 out of 5 by BigAck Cook My first cooking on this fryer turned out wonderful-however the wood chip tray never got hot enough to do any smoking. I did a 12 pound turkey, used my own injection recipe, and it all would up in nothing but a pile of bones, dispite the lack of smoke. I think I will stick to my smoker-wood fired-to do my smoking! April 14, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by james151 awesome I just used my fryer today when it was 15 degrees outside. The turkey came out great. Nice crisp skin and very juicey. Cooked 14 pounder and took 2hr and 20min. Just like they say, 10min per lb. Can't wait to use it again. January 31, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Gamecock1868 pleasant surprise I was a little skeptical at first about an electric oil free turkey fryer. I have been frying turkeys the conventional way for years so I really didn't want to deviate from what I knew worked. I had been hearing the commercials for this fryer on my local radio station so I took the plunge when my local Bass Pro Shops had it on sale Thanksgiving day. Assembly was a breeze. I prepared the turkey in my usual way, Tony Cachere's creole butter injector with a cajun rub. I rubbed the whole turkey in olive oil prior to the cajun rub to help give it a "tan" while cooking. After cooking for a while I took it inside and wrapped it in aluminum foil for 15 minutes to finish the job. The bird was moist and possibly the best thanksgiving day turkeys ever. I would highly recommend this oil free fryer to any one that wants that fried taste while maintaining a healthy diet. Plus there is no propane to worry about and no hot oil to spill (or to buy as both of those items can get pricey). I look forward to trying it out on more foods to come. November 27, 2009

The product brochure says that you can. I've only used mine once (chicken), and the drippings looked like it would be very good for gravy.

We do not see any problem with using the drippings for gravy. It would really be trial and error as we/masterbuilt does not have a gravy recipes.

The oil-less fryer isn't anywhere near that. The cooking times seem to be comparable to cooking in an oven. It's really just an electric oven. You may also have trouble getting any oil-less fryer up to a high temp if you are in cold weather. One big benefit to this is that it smokes too.

CALCULATE COOKING TIME for TURKEY:
The formula for calculating turkey cooking time is 10 minutes per pound (0.45kg) or until a food thermometer reads a temperature of 165°F-170°F (74°C-77°C) 2 inches (5.08cm) into the deepest part of the turkey breast.

12 lbs - weight listed on tag
X 10 min
120 min Total Cooking Time

The smoking ability is pretty good. I haven't used a traditional smoker to compare it to, but it gets pretty smokey and the wood box is placed in a perfect location.

It is not necessarily the greatest smoker compared to traditional smokers but it appears to pass on good smoke towards the meat. Thanks

Why isn't the skin crispy?

Details:
I cooked a seven pound oven stuffer roaster chicken in the oil free turkey fryer. It only took about 75 minutes. The meat was very moist, but the skin was soggy. I had dried the bird, rubbed it lightly with olive oil, and seasoned the skin. Any suggestions?

Olive oil preserves moisture. Olive oil is the reason the skin was soggy. Use any other kind of oil.

I think it may have been that you used olive oil. I used peanut oil and it was perfect.

I think the olive oil messed you up. Olive oil softens instead of hardens.

Perhaps you needed to cook it at a "hotter" temp. Our turkey and chickens have come out with crispy, yummy skin;maybe it should have been left in for an extra fifteen minutes.

Manual says use outdoors. I use wood in the tray yo give the turkey a smoked taste. Don" think you would want the smoke indoors.

Do not use this fryer indoors. Treat as you would a deep fryer, run it outdoors, some place where you have access to electricity, hopefully with a GFI plug.

Never tried, but does not seem to smoke much. Would recommend using in a garage as it is too big too put under a range hood.

I don't see any way you would be able to. It would be basically like putting them in a pile in a conventional oven.

Because the Oil-Free Turkey Fryer has holes at the bottom, it wouldn't be wise to put water in it. Have you looked at the Butterball Electric Turkey Fryer 38-614-984-98? You would be able to fry, steam, or boil.

I am curious, I have used the the Propane version! How does the taste and cooking time compare?
If I remember right the cooking time with a large turkey with propane was about 3 minutes per pound!

The turkey was golden brown and very moist. It took about 2.5 hours for a 15 lb. turkey. I have a propane version too and would trade it in a heart beat!

It took a little longer than the prescribed 10 minutes per pound. I bought the electric version so I didn't have to worry about having enough propane.

My timing with a propane was about the same about 3-4 minutes per pound. My timing with the electris dry cooker was 1o minutes per pound 0n the 2 about 14# ones I cooked.

I bought this Thanksgiving morning and used it that afternoon. It was great and well worth the money. I have been frying turkeys before it was popular and this made a juicier and tastier bird than my old peanut oil fryer. It cooks in about the same time as a conventional fryer. My old fryer would usually do the job in 7 minutes per pound and this one does it in 10 minutes per pound. I would highly recommend it.

Yes, It was wonderful! Very tasty, Crispy skin, and very easy to use. My family thought it was the best turkey they had ever had. Only 10 minutes per pound.
Set it and forget it until time is up.

It comes out great, very moist on the inside but darkened and crispy on the outside. It took about 2 hours for a 14 pound turkey on high, but I think I would do it on medium high next time. It did not hurt the taste at all, it was just done before everything else was.

I used mine today with it being about15 degrees outside. The turkey came out great. The skin was nice and crisp and the inside was very juicy. I had a 14lb turkey and it took 2hr and 20min. Just like they said, 10min per lb. Can't wait to use it again.
