6-18x50mmAO I'm completely amazed at this thing. I came home last night and it was sitting on my doorstep. My back yard (no streetlight) stays full of deer at night, so I figured I'd walk back there and check it out. Well, I did.. and wow. This was 7:00 PM, which is completely dark here in SC, and I could pretty much count points just by the moonlight. I put it on my rifle (7mm remington) today and this is by far the clearest, reasonably priced scope I've ever looked through, and I've looked through some expensive ones. If you're on a budget like I am and you want a great scope for $100~ then BUY THIS SCOPE. I'm purchasing another one for my .30-06 right now. November 11, 2007
best deal in riflescopes i've used my bushnell banner 4x12x40mm scope on my .243 win. for 13 hunting seasons and it still preforms like its new. i also have purchased another for my savage .270 win. its very clear and excellent for hunting in low-light conditions. i've dropped my rifle in mud, i've even tripped on some briars and fell on top of this scope[i weigh 360 pounds] and it still held zero. thats a very good scope! the best scope for the money. July 10, 2007
Great scope and value I have a VX-III 4.5-10 scope on my .17 HMR that took on a few problems. Apparently bouncing off my wifes lap going 40 mph on the 4 wheeler can have some harm on glass. It was a sad sad day in Idaho. Anyways, I jumped in my truck and headed into the nearest town and bought a cheap scope that would get me through the weekend. This scope was the Banner Dusk and Dawn 3.5X10 17 model....and guess what....I actually liked it better than a scope that cost about 4 times the amount I paid for the Bushnell! I'm not as freaked out about breaking this one because I can buy 4 or 5 of them before I replace my one Leupold!!! Dont get me wrong...Leupold makes amazing optics, but if you are looking for an inexpensive piece that is good quality and has a couple of cool features on it (I like the flashlight charged recticles) then you WILL not regret this scope. If you have a $1300 300 win. mag, I wouldn't recommend it, but if you have a good or mediocre smaller caliber that you want a good and affordable scope...this IS the answer! ~Cam April 16, 2007
Great scope for the money I purchased the 4x12x40mm AO for my .17 mach2 and it preforms great. I've taken squirrels at 85 yrds with no problems. January 21, 2007

It should handle that recoil quite easily. If not I've found Bushnell is the best company for free repairs and replacement.

The Hawken is quite gentle on scopes due to the barrel weight. Light guns are hardest on scopes.

With the 44. magnum i will not be shooting much further than 100 yards because of the significant drop, my main concern however is if this scope will work with my gun, or do I need to purchase a more expensive scope

You will need an extended eye relief scope for your pistol. Rifle scopes are viewed from 3.2-4" from the scope. With a pistol you need 20-25" of eye relief. Almost every company makes extended eye relief scopes so you don't necessarily need an expensive scope, just a different one.

My suggestion is check the parallax setting. I found a big difference in focus with a 50 yard setting and a 100 yard setting when I put one on my muzzleloader.

Hello, The Banner is a great shock resistant choice for your 44. If you are looking for a scope with a little more light gathering capabilities you may take a look at our Trophy XLT line.

Thanks,

Eye relief is the adjustment on the eye piece of your scope, that depending on your eyes distance from the eye piece will make your view through the scope clear at that position.

I have 2 of these scopes.........1 on a cva kodiak .45 muzzleloader and the other on an enfield .303 and they say you have 4 inches of eye relief and this has been true in both cases. Especially the enfield because it wasnt made to have a scope on it, but I didnt have any problem at all.

It is the distance between the optic lens and your eye. I have come to learn that more eye relief means more chance to screw up a high pressure shot.

is it suitable?

hi,
i don't know what scope would be best for me.i will be deer hunting with a Remington sps in .308.
because of the terrain where ill be hunting, a +500m shot would be rare.
i am interested in buying the Bushnell dusk and dawn scope.i bought a pair of redhead binoculars and i am very impressed.im wondering if redhead do something similar.
ideally i don't want to spend over $200 and would prefer a mildot.
thanks a million,

After just owning one of these scopes I would pass if I was you. I am very familiar with the rem 308, I was in the US Army for 8 yrs. I would recomend one of the new Redfields with the accu reticle. I just bought one to see if I could find a good scope under 200 as well. I put it on a tikka 3006 and it is deadly from 100 to 500 yds. It should be awesome on your sps. Hope this helps. I do recomend Bushnell in their Elite series but they get very pricy. Thanks

Almost any quality 3x9 scope will be all you will ever need. The bushnell scope is on the cheap side of good. There are MANY better choices in the $200 an under price range. The Nikon 3x9 Prostaff is far superior and well within your budget at $159.99. The Prostaff also can be had with a bullet drop compensating reticle for ten bucks more.

Hi Brian,
My advise would be to spend the money now for a quality scope so you don,t end up like myself with a broken scope in the middle of a season for the second time like I have. The cost of the trip and your time is worth the extra money now or like myself, The cost could be unmeasureable

A 30-30 is a close range gun. You're not going to be shooting 300+ yds. Any scope will do fine, just don't go crazy on magnification. A 2x7 variable would be fine or even a fixed 4 power. If you go with a fixed 4 power you can get a better brand name scope for less money than a variable.

you simply dont need an expensive scope for a 30-30 seeing as they are really not meant for long distance shots, if your looking for superb quality go with a nikon prostaff, its price is 159.99 but if you ask me a $50 3-9x40 bushnell off the rack scope will do just fine for a 30-30 because you really shouldnt be shooting more that 150 yards with that calliber
