Ordered this compass as I had lost my Silva in the woods right after a long walk out in the dark. Some of the places I hunt require compass or GPS navigation out in the dark. The compass seems to function normally so far, but the quality and packaging is substandard. First of all, the mirror is plastic, and out of the package was cracked at all four locations where it snaps into the lid. Not a fault of shipping or anything else, just bad design. Second, right in the middle of the mirror, is a sticker advertising national Geographic maps! Stuck to the mirror. And of course, it leaves a ton of nasty residue when peeled away. By the way, the same maps were advertised on the outside of the package. What makes some moron think I'm buying a product that is advertised by screwing up the product I just bought? Third, the hinge for the lid is not a hinge at all, but thin plastic that bends. obviously, this will be cracked and broken in a week, then I will have to go and buy a Silva again. My Silva lasted me 15 years and would still be used if I didn't lose it.
