I've had this reel for 2 years now and figured it was time for a review. I bought this reel as a replacement after so low life broke in my shed and stole my BPS Rick Clunn reels. I wanted to buy some Rick Clunns but my BPS didn't have any in stock so I went with this. The first thing I noticed was how sharp the edges are and how uncomfortable the grips feel compared to my old reels. I put some of those rubber grips that slide over the handles and solved the grip problem, but the sharp edges on the reel bothers me when I use this reel for extended periods of time. I ended up filing the sharp edges down and no longer have this problem. The reel performs pretty good I don't think it's the smoothest reel and on occasion it will make a slight buzzing noise on long casts, even after I have performed maintenance and lubrication on it. The dual braking system works almost the same as my old reels and I think it's a great design and don't understand why more companies don't use it. I'm not sure I would pay $129 for it when I originally got mine for $89, but I guess when word gets out about a good product they try to make more money on it. I've caught over 20 bass on it and the drag, gearing, braking system, and other components have all worked flawlessly, I would just fix those 2 other issues and I would say you have a great reel.

I purchased this reel to put on a TFO FWC765-1 for skipping jigs. The reel is light and strong, with a great drag system. Dual braking is a major plus when skipping jigs...

Bought this to replace a curado... Im returning it and at least going with the citica for the same price you get a much higher quality product. I got this to try something new plus it was on sale atthe time, but im for shimano all the way.

The line capacity and drag of the 20 size compares favorably to Abu-Garcia Revo-Toro for 1/2 the price ($130 less). I was curious if anyone has had any experience/ success when going after mukie and any other info (opinions, rod-reel-line-lure combos) they might have about this reel.Answers

I haven't used it for Musky, but I use it for striped bass, it works well and can handle a 15 lb. bass. I had to replace the bearings on the spool, but it does have over 600 fish caught on it!Details:Â

This is a great addition to the reel if you fieh in areas where guick responce is a must. When casting you push the bar while holding ths spool at the same time. When you cast and release the bar the the spool locks in for less drop of the bait , helping to keep the bait from sinking into unwanted areas (ie. brush, oyster reef, moss,giving you an advantage, and helping you to keep from free of hangs.A:Â
The flippin switch allows you to change the funtion of the thumb bar. Reguluar potition depress the thumb bar is depressed and the line spool is set in free spool and stays there till the handle is turned to reel the line in. Switch to flippin and depress the bar puts the spool in free spool. Release the thumb and it goes back to locking the spool in the wind up mode right away.Details:Â
I'm in the market for a new reel and being new at baitcasting, this is my third season, I would like to know how well the dual brake system works! Not necessarily for distance, but for different lures, and how easy it is to set when changing lures? Is it really fussy, or is it just a simple turn of the dials and that's it? Also is one brand of reel better suited for an individual than an other? Example, if I use a Shimano reel, and I works just great for me! Then I decide to try a Browning reel,of the same specks, and it does not do the trick for me, is it just me, or can it be that one brand is better suited for my needs than an other? Keep in mind that I am new in the baitcasting world, but I have figured out the thumbing and I am getting more accurate. But, I have seen some difference between brands!I know a high end reel is a high end reel, regardless of brand! Once you pass $250, it's pretty much brand preference!Thank you for your time,

The reel has multiple settings on the side.By rotating the outer dial you can control the amount of magnetic force applied to the spool.
The inner dial controls the number of break shoes that the centrifugal break system uses to slow down the spool's rotation. By turning this dial to 1,2,or 3 you allow 2,4 or 6 break shoes to create friction against the spool's breaking ring.
Since you are new to baitcasters I suggest you start off with the 10 setting on the outside dial and 3 on the inner.
Also I suggest you start off filling the spool only to 75% capacity. This will help limit your backlashes.
I have replaced all my Shimano reels with these Browning Midas reels. With them set properly I can cast into the wind with no problem. Plus set them for distance and nothing else I've ever used will cast as far.

How big of a fish can the wide spool handle?Answers

I use size 10 for steelhead, 12# mono just fine, had 2 coho, about 14#, roughly, landedMy 20 I use in the chinook run, 15# mono, landed 2 over 20#. Use to cast salt periodically, 28# ling, but now use Curado 300 most often, although the 20 has bigger drag, Curado casts 3/16oz better.
Ling cod aren't a good test for drags.
Have another 10, w/20# braid I use in slop, good choice.
Key on the line you want to use, then use a rod that will handle the line kindly. Drag's less an issue, but this one will handle anything I'll catch

This reel has a 17 lb drag. The strongest of any bait cast reel I know. I do believe it is designed for freshwater fishing so I would say your best bet is to call the factory for information.Details:Â

Buy a BPS Prolite Special bait cast reel and a spool of 10# Excel clear blue line. Will handle down to about 3/16 bass jig pretty well. Don't worry about fish seeing the line.You're better off being able to see bites.Answers

I AM USING IT WITH 30LB POWER PRO AND WILL BE USING MY NEXT ONE WITH 65LB. EXCELLENT CHOICE FOR BRAIDED LINE.A:Â
This will work well with 50 lbs braid just remember to check the line for digging in after u set the on somthing. Line tends to digg in if spool has loose line on it.
