Rated 5 out of 5 by a bunch of fun got this as a gift. took it out last weekend and had a blast. found ALOT of cans but had a real good time out. seemed to pick up all the stuff that it is suposed to. going out next week to an old party spot from the 60's. Rated 2 out of 5 by Really Disappointed I bought this unit because of the Bounty Hunter reputation. It was purchased to find boundry stakes, septic cover and buried electric service. I placed the unit over a known metal (steel) boundry stake and the unit did not react while moving it side to side as the directions stated. Took the Metal Detector back to the Bass Pro Store. The store accepted the return without issue. Will study other detectors on line to find recommended unit. October 4, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by xmas gift I bought this has a gift for my husband, but when it arrived it wasn't in a box to conceal what it was and the delivery man handed it right to him. He came in the house grinning like he just won the lottery. Well the only thing I could think to say was that it was for our son in law because he's always losing his keys. He got real disappointed and went off sulking to bad he has to wait to Christmas. November 24, 2010

The unit is able to pick up gold. What is important to understand is that it depends on the size, and how deep the gold nuggets are. The unit is able to detect a coin sized object about 6 inches deep, the bigger the item the deeper it will be able to detect it. Thanks

It would be ok as long as there was no EMI (power lines) close and you did not get in wet. I have searched a beach at a lake up here and have found a bunch of coins. Did not go near or in the water.

Per manufacturer - This unit will detect anything with metallic properties in it. Anything from tin foil to gold to rusty nails. A coin-sized metal object will trigger the detector up to 5''-6'' down.
