Worst buy ever!!!! Do not buy this cheep piece of work. You would think if you spend $60 dollars on something it might have some sort of quality and functionality. Well this thing dosnt. It says great for beginners and experts its very untrue. my string kept getting caught between the two plastic pieces. The last time this happened the sting broke sent the arrow in the ground, and the metal clasp on the reel broke. Do your self a favor and just bump up to the more expensive it will save you a drive and time. June 21, 2014
Has withstood the test of time! I have never wrote a review before, but en-light of the bad reviews I have seen on this product, I decided to start. I will say I have been using this same set up for over 10 years. It has never failed me, or came apart as they say not once. And believe me I am ruff on it! I have brought in several hundred Carp and Gar over the years with this product ! Over the years I have had to replace the line from general wear and stress I have put through. And only just recently retired the arrow, only because I finally wore the tip out. Over all I am very pleased with and continue to use! I don't sport fish, I fish with it to Eat, And Depend on it! Great , tough product! April 23, 2014
Good for the Money Product did do what it was intended, just a few flaws. The string/line that came with it frayed and broke after just 5 shots. So I would recommend getting a tougher line. The bow that I had, the setup didnt fit just right. I had to buy a longer bolt from my local hardware store to get the extra length so it could spin freely without rubbing parts of my bow. You may have no problem with yours. Also, since this reel is plastic, so you cant tighten the bolts up very tightly without busting it. I had them tight, and shot, it came loose and the entire reel, bolts and nuts fell to my feet. I used lock-tite on the nuts, didnt happen again. For a begginer or someone on a budget looking to just have some fun this it the one you want. If your a little more serious about it, I would definately go with another product. August 7, 2011
Great for beginners As long as you follow the directions, you shouldn't have any issues. The only thing I have to comment on , is the ability to reel up the line once you have shot your arrow. In my case it's easier to wind the line up by hand instead of using the hand crank. P.S. keep all your nuts and bolts tight , use locktite. November 28, 2010

i used a homemade rig off a twenty oz pop bottle, it threw my shot off a little, i imagine this thing will too, it is bigger with more of a lip than the bottle. i also noticed it slows the arrow down as it unwinds. i'd go with the retriever pro, like i did eventually. but if you like it get it and practice then it won't matter cause you can compensate

Is good for anything that swims! but I would not suggest going after bass or blue gill with, most states it is only legal to bow fish for non game fish, like Carp and Gar! I would check your local Fish & Game Regulations before doing so!

A:
most state regulated lakes don't allow bowfishing of gamefish, might check it out before shooting bass with it.

I am interested in purchasing this kit, but after reading some of the reviews am a little skeptical about it. I plan to be bow fishing often on Lake Elsinore in Southern California, when the carp are up on shore in water less than 8 inches deep. Is this the right kit to look at, or should I go with a different product like an AMS reel?

If you mean often as in more than 4-5 times a month, I would definately go with another product. The Bohning is decent if your just wanting to have a little fun, but if your wanting to get a little more serious about it, I would go with this. >>>

I would say this would be a good choice. You might order the product and if it does not work send the unit back. Of course, our “No Hassle” 30 day money back guarantee still applies.
