Designed by fishermen for fishermen, the BoatBuckle® RodBuckle® Retractable Rod Hold-Down System is the most attractive and functional rod hold-down system on the market for deck style fishing boats. The self-retracting polyester strap extends a full 24'' and securely locks into position on the deck. The PVC extrusion coated strap grips rods and resists hook penetration. If you are not a handyman with alot of patience I wouldn't purchase this product unless you know someone who will install it. I took the template and set it as low to the deck as possible and marked where I wanted to install. The 4 corners are about a .25" radius so I drilled a .50" hole at each with the outside edge of the bit at the outer edge of my mark.
Then I drilled several holes close to the perimeter around the edge to alow for a small half round file to pass through. I used the edge of the file as a saw and cut the hole edges and smoothed along the edges of the template and kept fitting the holder until it fit perfect. Then I simply set it in the hole, drilled pilot holes and put in the 2 screws. For the catch on the deck you may need to purchese stainless screws and elastic lock nuts if it goes through a lid and drill oversize holes to mount. It only took me about 30 minutes to install in this manner.

I have a similar one that came with my boat which I love. This one is a little big for the inside edge where it mounts so the bracket is needed to mount it. Would be a large hole to cut.

This is a well made product. Install is fairly easy with the right tools.
It is a must have for serious fishermen!

This rod Buckle beats the dickens out of the rubber straps. Very easy to install by using the template which is provided. Strongly suggest this over the bungey straps, the reciever buckle is low profile and doesn't present a tripping hazard. Thanks for providing this product, shame its not advertised in your standard catalog alongside the straps.

If you want to flush mount this into your boat then you will have to do some cutting on the boat. But it is really easy with the right tools. If you do not want to flush mount it, they sell brackets that screw down to the deck.
if you have a glass boat and your gunale is at least 3" above the floor then it can be flush mounted. If you don't want to cut a large hole in the gunale than purchase the adaptor to surface mount with 2 screws.
It comes ready to install flush with the interior side of your boat. To install it as it comes, you must cut out a hole. A surface mount kit is available that allows installation with just two screw holes, but it will stick out about 1.5 inches or so.
