Designed by fishermen for fishermen, the RodBuckle Retractable Rod Hold-Down System is the most attractive and functional rod hold-down system on the market for deck style fishing boats. The self-retracting polyester strap extends a full 24'' and securely locks into position on the deck. The PVC extrusion coated strap grips rods and resists hook penetration. When not in use, it neatly retracts out of the way. Easy installation with mounting template included.
Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 29 reviewers.
Rated 1 out of 5 by Difficult I purchased the housing and the Rodbuckle and it sits higher than the side of my boat. I own a Skeeter bass boat and would think that this can be made with a lower profile. After deciding to use it anyway I realized that the screws are too short to grip through my carpet and the latch mechanism is difficule to hook into. I have had success with the cheap bungee strap and hook and will continue to use that, this system is not worth the money. December 30, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Cheap Insurance For less than the cost of 1 reel spool of superline it secures all my rods on my deck. Quick and easy to use. October 16, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Useless producy Mount adapter for Rod buckle. There is no way to fit this on the side of the boat rail. I bought these to avoid cutting into my boat for the Rod Buckle, but the way they are designed they will not fit flush to the side. September 25, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Works Very Well I chose to get the deck housing adapter instead of drilling holes into the side of my brand new boat but looks just as good and functions great...installed in 5 mins and holds rods securely in place for travel when not in rod locker or when running down the lake....would highly recommend June 26, 2013

If you want to flush mount this into your boat then you will have to do some cutting on the boat. But it is really easy with the right tools. If you do not want to flush mount it, they sell brackets that screw down to the deck.

A:
if you have a glass boat and your gunale is at least 3" above the floor then it can be flush mounted. If you don't want to cut a large hole in the gunale than purchase the adaptor to surface mount with 2 screws.

It can mount to the side of the boat, or with the adaptor it'll mount to the deck, as I used it. It's a complete unit.

The rod buckle comes with everything you nee to mount it flush into the side board of your boat. Or there is an optional bracket to screw down to the deck with no cutting required.

A:
It comes ready to install flush with the interior side of your boat. To install it as it comes, you must cut out a hole. A surface mount kit is available that allows installation with just two screw holes, but it will stick out about 1.5 inches or so.

Pretty easy, you have to cut into the deck, it would be good to find your specs before you drill so you're not hitting anything but it was easy for me with my bass tracker 170 tx

On a tracker you will need an adapter (~$7) to mount to the gunwale. I mounted mine flush in the deck between the fiberglass and the rod boxes on my Nitro. Works great.
