Designed to protect and perform, the Blackfin Replacement Skeg is made from durable high-impact nylon composite featuring two tapered wings on each side for structural reinforcement and lift at every angle of engine trim. The Blackfin also features a sacrificial node on the bottom which limits the engine's skeg from plowing into underwater objects, and is shaped to turn the engine slightly on side impacts for more prop protection.
To determine the Blackfin model for your engine, measure from the front of the prop to the tip of the gear housing. Simply match this measurement to one of the Blackfin sizes listed below.Note:
The MerCruiser Alpha One when measured falls into the medium category, however it will require a small Blackfin.

The first time you touch anything under water it WILL come off and leave a mess of sealant on your skeg that is almost impossible to get off. If you get the bright idea of drilling and installing SS screws and hit something, the Black Fin will rip in half, not as durable as they say it is. It took 5 mph off the top end of my 90hp Mercury. I have made the mistake of trying 2 of these hoping it would work, wasted my time and money.

The ease of installing the product along with the fact that you do not drill any holes to weaken the skeg makes this even better.I have lost 1 of the skegs when I hit 2 sand bars on the Colorado River but I was able to fish the tourney with no damage to my lower unit or prop.It has increased the speed that I am able to make turns and I have not noticed any loss in top speed.

Broke off part of my skeg. Purchased this to repair it. It does stay on the skeg if installed like the directions. It does help with hole shots. It did not slow my boat down. The bad is at about 60 mph the boat has chine walk.
