Designed to protect and perform, the Blackfin Replacement Skeg is made from durable high-impact nylon composite featuring two tapered wings on each side for structural reinforcement and lift at every angle of engine trim. The Blackfin also features a sacrificial node on the bottom which limits the engine's skeg from plowing into underwater objects, and is shaped to turn the engine slightly on side impacts for more prop protection.
To determine the Blackfin model for your engine, measure from the front of the prop to the tip of the gear housing. Simply match this measurement to one of the Blackfin sizes listed below.
Note: The MerCruiser Alpha One when measured falls into the medium category, however it will require a small Blackfin.

Installation went well and so far has skeg has remained in place. Looks much better than broken original.

lost on first trip out !
glue adhered to skeg but not to BlackFin.
prepped as directed but did not work.
waste of money.
need some sort of thru bolt or mechanical

I followed the directions to a tee, first time I was on the water it fell off. Now the company was easy to deal with, so stay tunedf for a second review.

I bought this as my skeg was nicked above the area a Skeggard would cover, and liked that it wouldn't draw attention to the fact my skeg was damaged. Installed on a Merc 115 4 stroke with the small Blackfin and had to cut out a notch for the carrier bolt. I sanded my lower unit with 220 grit sand paper and took off the shine. Cleaned with degreaser and acetone, and applied the adhesive. The adhesive has the appearance/texture of liquid nails but actually dries with a firm, rubber-like texture. So far has held up very well!

Measuring for FitTo determine the Blackfin model you need, measure from the front of the prop to the tip of the gear housing. Take your horiziontal measurement and match it to the one of the three Blackfin sizes.The Mercruiser Alpha One when measured falls into the medium category; however it will require a Small Blackfin.

You will need to use 2 Blackfins with dual motors. The steering will be much more sensitive and the boat will jump out of the hole with the Blackfins installed. The horizontal ribs cause you to need less trim to get the bow to the same point instead of just the thrust off the prop. You will love the increase sensitivity in steering while protecting the lower unit and prop.Answers
