- Tapered wings on each side for structural reinforcement and lift
- Sacrificial node on the bottom limits engine's skeg from plowing into underwater objects
Designed to protect and perform, the Blackfin Replacement Skeg is made from durable high-impact nylon composite featuring two tapered wings on each side for structural reinforcement and lift at every angle of engine trim. The Blackfin also features a sacrificial node on the bottom which limits the engine's skeg from plowing into underwater objects, and is shaped to turn the engine slightly on side impacts for more prop protection.
To determine the Blackfin model for your engine, measure from the front of the prop to the tip of the gear housing. Simply match this measurement to one of the Blackfin sizes listed below.Note:
The MerCruiser Alpha One when measured falls into the medium category, however it will require a small Blackfin.

I am on my second Blackfin Replacement Skeg. The first one is in the bottom of the bay. I hit bottom with the skeg (at a rather slow speed) and the Blackfin pulled completely off. No damage to the engine, so I guess the Blackfin did its job. I think Blackfin needs to improve the adhesive or recommend bolting the Blackfin to the skeg. I followed the installation instructions 100%. The adhesive adheres more than well to the aluminum skeg, but does not adhere well to the Blackfin itself. All the adhesive remained on the skeg and it took two hours to remove it when installing the second Blackfin. I purchased the Blackfin to avoid drilling into the engine's skeg, but I can't afford to literally drop $100 into the water every time I am in shallow water.

After breaking off two thirds of my metal skeg I ordered and installed the Blackfin. It was easy to install and fit perfect. It restored my performance to like new.

I damaged my skeg on one of my trips out on the lake, so I purchased the blackfin skeg protector because of it's claims of dependability and it wouldn't void engine warranty by drilling holes into the skeg. I followed the instructions to the letter on the installation but shortly after a few trips out on the lake, it was soon lost. The adhesive isn't strong enough to support their product.

Installation went well and so far has skeg has remained in place. Looks much better than broken original.
