I got this holster for my Glock 17 and am very pleased with it. The release button is in the perfect position for a safe draw and the paddle part is comfortable against my side. Other reviewers complain about the retention system not being able to keep someone from taking the gun from you but if it were anymore "retained" you would have trouble drawing it yourself.

I am very happy with this purchase and use it to Open Carry my Smith and Wesson M&P 40 almost every day (yes in Michigan you can Openly carry a handgun WITH OUT a permit)
It is great retention and it will not come out unless the wearer wants it to (meaning both gun or holster)
the three place cante allows for great positions and user friendly drawing. and your finger is properly positioned of the trigger but ready for action right away.

I bought this in Bass Pro for a S&W Sigma series 9 mm pistol and I have been nothing but happy with it. The retention is great with a very secure release mechanism, plus you can adjust the friction release to hold the pistol above and beyond that. It's definitely a tactical holster rather than an every-day holster, and the gun isn't that secure from someone taking it out so I wouldn't recommend this unless you're just buying it for target practice or have a lot of experience with guns and handling yourself in difficult situations. It is not secure enough otherwise to keep a gun away from an attacker. It's also very handy that you don't have to put the holster on your belt!

I purchased this holster for a J-frame S-W. It fit my 642, but my wife has a 642 w/top port. The barrel, on the 642 w/port didn't fit due to larger bbl. We have to find a holster that fits hers. We don't know if Blackhawk makes a modified J-frame model to fit the ported model.

I know another customer asked about the S&W 40VE but I thought the S&W 9VE with the 16 round clip might be a different size. Thank You in advance for your comments.Answers
