I have a camp on a lake that has excellent bass fishing, and at certain times, also has excellent crappie fishing.
Two years ago, the crappie were biting, and it was before I got into fly fishing, and caught upwards of 15 of them on those BPS Squirmin' Squirt tubes.
Well, last year, we had a day when the crappie were biting, so I decided to try this spider on the fly rod. I ended up catching 10 crappie, 1 sunfish, and 1 yellow perch. Most of the crappie were 8"-12", and the largest was just over 14" long! They loved this little spider, and its the only fly that stayed on my line that day. For the price, I highly recommend getting a few!
I was using the black colored one. Didnt actually try it on trout waters....yet! But its certainly an excellent panfish fly.

This is a very good fly fishing lure for bream in Louisiana. I have been fishing with them for many, many years (decades actually). Betts has been around for a very long time. These are good lures by a reputable company and they will catch fish in Louisiana and wherever there are panfish. - TLARbbDetails:Â
I am new to fly fishing and I bought this fly for fishing in golf course ponds that I know are loaded with largemouth bass, bluegill, and catfish but I have never tried it. I bought it for catching bluegill and bass but I don't understand how to work it. How do you work this fly and does it float well?Answers
A:Â
You just cast it near where the fish are and slowly retrieve it jiggling it slightly to make the legs work and wait for the strike. You should get a strike EVERY cast!A:Â
It;s a chenille bug so it absorps water and sinks slowly. If you false cast a few times it will float for a bit, but its most effective when you let it sink a bit a retrieve it is slow smooth strokes. Bluegill love it and while its a bit small for bass I have causgt plenty of them using this and similar bugs.Good fishing

When I used it, I let it hit the water, and just twitched it back slowly and gently. Worked very well.Top 1000 Contributor
