I have fished it a few times on a shaky head and caught a couple of fish. I seem to get better results fishing it on a worm hook. I do live in Colorado and fish colder water than you have there in TN though, so a shaky head may produce better for you.

Use the black with blue flecks. They are easier for the bass to see in muddy water.

Use the darker colors, and use a bead behind the weight. This makes a clacking sound that help Bass find the lure.

i like the black with either blue or red fleck in it, you can also use natural colors for instance watermellon red, oh and a good one to do is get green pumpkin color and dip the tails in chartuse die, it looks like a blue gill and fish tend to eat it better. i fish in a pond where the water clarity is only a couple inches, so use these colors and pick lures that displace alot of water and i guarentee you some big bass

Wanting 2 save $$$ (don't we all) and wondering if the 4" would make a good lure and also a jig trailer

A:
If you're wanting to save $$$$... don't buy these. They rip apart and the appendages come off VERY easily. You're VERY lucky if you get more than one fish per bait and sometimes not even that if there are bluegills nipping at them as they pull the appendages off in a heartbeat.... and there is only SIX in a pack.
Gets expensive quickly !!

I use both sizes, the 3" as a jig trailer works good and the 4'' on a 1/8 or 3/16 ounce plain jighead works good too. My favorite is a 4'' Breen color , it's my ''go to'' soft plastic ..

A:
i would get gamasaku or trokar heavy cover flipping hooks or get a ewg hook. depending on how you want to fish thats how you pick your weight. if you are fishing a depth range of anything less than 3/8 ounces and how thick the cover is and what type you are fishing. if you can find screw in weights that tends to work better cause they dont get hung up as much. if you are flipping matted grass, no matter the depth, i would use nothing less than 1/2 ounce weights depending on the thick ness of the grass. no when you get set up and are ready to go fishing, there are several ways to work it. one way is jigging it, hitting the top of the cover then letting flutter back to the bottom. getting a heavy weight and poping it up and let it fall real fast getting a reaction strike. you just have to be creative. hope these tips helped you out.

i used a heavy Northland jighead, but if you are fishing cover i would use a weadless jig. I dont think the weedless barb will affect hookups because the bass that have hit mine swallow the whole thing

A:
Carolina rig is best for any softbait in heavy cover. the weight will sink to the bottom leaving the bait on top of the moss or grass which keeps the bait in view for the fish

the best colors are natural kinds of colors, like the watermelon, anything green or brown and some browns with a tint of red. I rig it on unpainted weighted jigheads and just run the hook straight through the middle of the bait so it comes out fully exposed

A:
i usually choose my colors based on water clarity. in the clear waters i usually stick with the watermelon or a green pumpkin. in darker water i will opt for the blue or cinnamon red. on rigging it the sky is the limit. my favorite is on a light jighead to give the natural gliding action of a crawfish returning to the lake bottom. but another popular method would be texas rigged with a pegged weight for pitching. im a big fan of having two rigged one on the light jighead for rocky structure the other on a texas rig for pitching in the occasional downed tree that i come to. i almost forgot another top method for fishing this lure is on a dropshot rig. hope this helps you out. tight lines, probassfan

I use this texas rigged. I have the 4inch craw and use a 1/8 ounce bullet sinker. The slow fall drives bass nuts. Flipping it into grass and laydowns is awesome but today i had most luck dragging it. drag about a foot. pause...twitch a few times and repeat...good luck and good fishing!
