Interesting Reviews out there.... This poor dude gets thrown under the bus by almost everyone it seems. They stop & spin the tires on it too... Check the one other truely positive review on here & here's the deal - that savvy guy from Wichita (I think) is right. I bought this a year and a half ago thinking I'd return it promptly if it was a dud... I've used it on hundreds, maybe thousands of hooks since that time. Use it all the time & smile every time my spro frog hook goes back to needle sharp, or my new (inexpensive) short-shanked vmc trebles become as sharp as my Gami's... I sharpen vmc trebles & resharpen Gami's, Owners, Mustad etc - you get the point (no pun intended). Ever noticed the red Gami trebles aren't consistently sharp out of the box like the black nickel ones? Weird, but I fix them up too in a matter of seconds. I don't discard EWG worm hooks when a little dull like I used to either... I use the thumbnail method to determine sharpness & there is absolutely NO WAY that using a file can touch the speed & efficiency of perfectly sharpening the # of hooks that I do with this little 'piece of junk'. I hope the operator error will get ironed out for your sake Berkley - nice product. June 7, 2012
Not worth the effort! They should call this thing a hook duller! The motor is so week that it stall out just by looking at it, and as for sharpening, well, it dulls the hook more than it sharpens! Completely useless! April 28, 2012
PIECE OF JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bought this product to sharpen smaller hooks on artifcials. Very dissapointed. The motor is extremely weak and the unit seems to bind when you put a hook point in it. In the event you can manage to place the hook point in the end hole according to directions it still will not sharpen a hook. I'll stick with my battery operated dremel tool and a hand file. If only it worked... Wouldn't it be nice to quickly and easily touch up the point on your Carolina rig hook between casts? It would... but this gadget ain't the way to do it. It's very poorly engineered. The little chip of sharpening material breaks and falls out of the unit after a couple of uses. Save your money until something better comes along. September 22, 2011

It works horribly! It will dull your hooks more than sharpen them. You can do better with a file or a hone!

The one I bought broke the first time I used it. Your mileage may vary.
