Berkley® Hot Line Cutter
pretty good but eats batteries
This product is pretty good for $10. It will cut brain well and do a deasent job of preventing fraying. You can also repair plastics with it to.
The only problem i have so far is that it eats through batteries pretty quick. If you use it in moderation it should be ok. I just need to see how it holds up but overall pretty good.

I have bought 2 of these and they are great for a short period of time. The first one lasted about 2 months fishing about 2 times a week when it quit working I thought maybe I just had a bad one so the next time I went to Bass Pro about 2 hour drive I got another. Lasted 1 week. Will not waste my money again.

The extra tip is in the battery lid!!!
Don't get it red hot.... 3-4 seconds works. no wonder you are going thru batteries.

Good idea, poor execution
This item was amazing out of the package (which was way over-packaged, talk about no regard for the environment) when the heating element lit up a bright red like a soldering iron. I used it to go back through my tackle box and quickly remove all the extra bits of line on hooks and baits that had been tough to get off. It was a joy to see them melt away.
The next thing I did was take it out steelhead fishing. At which point it ran out of gas and wouldn't cut the line when I was waist deep in water. Very disappointed. Later I replaced the batteries. I seem to get 20 minutes of melting heat from it and then the batteries die. It's never regained the same heat level as out of the package. In practicality who wants to take along unreliable equipment on a fishing trip?
I did not receive the extra heating element that the package says it includes and having looked at other packages I don't see it included. It is useful as a finesse tool that stays home and sucks batteries like no tomorrow.
