Berkley Havoc Grass Pig Softbaits
Worked Great 1st Time
I had a friend suggest using this Havoc. So I bought a package of them, and gave them a try this past weekend. I was fishing a small lake in Iowa and casting up against the shore. It rained in the morning and then later in the afternoon the sun came out and the temperature went up to 80. On the first cast I caught a fish to make the total for the day 36 (the biggest 20”). I used up all of the lures in the package and wished that I had bought more.

I bought this bait skeptical of Berkley Havoc baits, because I had just purchased the "Juice Worm" which left me scratching my head at how bad the thing's ribbon tail swam. However, The Grass Pig did not disappoint and I caught many fish on this bait. However, after about 20 or so fish, the nose of the bait was so shredded that the screw-lock hook wouldn't hold anymore. But, I found a quick fix by just tearing the shredded nose off and re screwing the bait back onto the hook. caught another fish on the next cast after the fix. Bait's body has an especially good action because the body bends like a real fish's swim. In all, GET THIS BAIT. Works best with 4/0 swimbait screw-lock hooks.

This is a great bait with good action when retreived on a slow steady pace. The only thing I don't like is that the bait is 5" only. They need to offer it in 2", 3", 4" and 5" to a match more then one type of forage.

Worth the $2.99 but I'd get another
This bait lacks what slightly more pricey swim baits of this type have. It does not have a good hook slot on top or other ribs to protect the hook when rigged weedless. It also lacks a hinge-point some distance up from the tail. This can be seen in other swim baits. It allows for more of the bait's lower end to waggle. It does not seem to have the good, controlled rocking motion, that rotational motion that makes its motion something like a crank bait. The plastic feels gummy. Other types feel more springy. This also may have something to do with the overall less vibration I feel. It is also fairly light, comparatively, so if you throw this on baitcasting gear, get the one that throws light baits well or use a weighted swimbait hook. I don't mean this isn't a good bait, just that, for maybe 30 cents more per bait, other better , more functional ones exist.
