I was introduced to the gulp this fall during the annual flounder run at Sabine Lake between TX and LA. My fishing partner and I got a limit of flounder on every trip using the glup and fishing from the shore line. It was an amazing bait. We also caught red fish, speckled trout, and gulf trout on this bait. We fish pearl white gulp. Thanks, Gary

Fishing the flats in Tampa Bay, FL ideally you have live white bait, a gold spoon and Gulp! Going after spooky red fish, snook and sea trout, I really don't have a consistent favorite I bring them all and keep changing until the fish show a consistent preference. Most days Berkley Gulp catch fish as well as any other form of bait.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by hawaiicaster Almost as good as live shrimp
It used to be easy many years ago to go down to the brakish water ponds and catch a bucketful of opae(brakish water shrimp) The last time I went I caught 10 in one hour. I needed another approach, so I went on line to see what was there. I came across Bass Pro Shops, Berkeley salt water shrimps and decided to give it a try after reading some of the reviews. Great move in the right direction. The fish love them and will strike if moved slowly behind a bobber with a added split shot 8 inches above bait. I caught Awaawa(Ladyfish) , Lai (Leatherback) and Papio (Jack Crevelle.) I would say almost a good as live bait, but no need to go down and catch bait. Highly recommended to fellow anglers.

Best to just work it. like a jig head and pop it a couple of times. I would suggest if you are trying for a less aggressive fish then just work it a little slower. pop it a couple of time and let sit for around 8 seconds. Just find a good paceA:Â
I'd use a small jig head and give it an occasional hop.A:Â
Fair. I like to bounce slowly.Answers

This bait can be used in any ways you think. I love to bounce them across the bottom or drift them across the bottom. Just hang on, because if the fish are there, you will get them. Great baits. I have caught big Redfish and Seatrout with whole Gulp baits in their bellies that someone had thrown over after use. I know this because there are no hooks in the baits. Good luck fishing.Details:Â
Which size hook or jig head to use on a 3" shrimp? I'll be fishing off the jetties using the popping cork method.Answers
A:Â
I like using a 1/3 oz jig head. Go check out the h20 jigs and they have great appearance and great pricesA:Â
It's hard to say not knowing the tide, current, etc but as a guideline I would start light and go heavier as needed. Remember your trying to mimic a live shrimp.A:Â
i use a 1/4 oz jig head on em and works greatTop 50 Contributor

If you plan on using a jighead I suggest a Calcutta short shank jighead, a mission jighead, a StrikeKing flats jighead, or a DOA jighead. They are all great choices and an 1/8 or 1/4 should be fine under a cork.If you want to go unweighted with a regular hook I strongly suggest a Owner Mutu Light circle hook, either a 1/0 or 2/0 hook. If you are more comfortable with a "j-hook", Mustad makes several bait keeper styles to hold your Gulp and make a quick stick.
I hope this helps.

Can you fish this product of the bottom? Will it catch flounder, red, trout off the bottom?
Answers
A:Â
Definitely! that is what its best for. Just stick it on a jig head and pop it on the bottom. You will see results.A:Â
I have been using this product bottom fishing from a Kayak. I can't say whether or not it will catch specific species, but I have been getting lots of sea bass with them on the bottom.Top 50 Contributor

I have heard of some people using a 5/8 or 3/4 ounce casting weight and rigging this lure on a saltwater dropshot set up.I prefer the lightest jighead I can cast effectively and that has the sink rate I prefer. In very shallow water I will sometimes use a 1/16 ounce DOA jighead and hop the Gulp over the turtle grass.
I have caught flounder, reds, and a ton of trout on Gulp to answer the second part of your question.
I hope this helps

New Penny, hands down!A:Â
I use the natural color and new penny, it works the best in the marsh where i fish at. I catch speckel trout red fish and flounderTop 10 Contributor

Natural, but all colors work well...darker or bright colors in stained water.A:Â
White or new penny here on the Gulf Coast of Florida.Details:Â
will the 2 inch version catch smaller fish with a very high bite ration...normally i will fish with bloodworms and have a high high bite ratio per casts..probably 99 percent...will you get hit up like that and will you catch fish from which lengths and which species from land and jetties....white perch/striper.....Answers

I use the 3" and will catch tiny fish to 40+ inch fish. They are awesomeA:Â
The 2" is pretty small.I use the 3"-4". I still catch small fish on them too. You don't miss many fish on gulp, they tend to not let go.
A:Â
yes it will...I prefer the 4" for speckled trout. "bigger the bait bigger the catch"Top 10 Contributor
A:Â
If you are getting 99% bite to cast ratio, why try anything else? Gulp 2 and 3 inch will catch most anything that swims in saltwater and in various sizes.Q:Â

What is the best way to rig this when surf casting? On a jig head get it on the bottom and work it back ?
Answers
A:Â
Use a Carolina rig with the appropriate wt. for the conditions of the surf. Use your jig heads on the rig. Also you can try using a heavier jig head , with no wt. and bounce it of the bottom of the sand.Top 1000 Contributor
A:Â
Under a copping cork with 18-24" leader.A:Â
jig head or carolina rig both work well.A:Â
A jig head will work well, but try it on a leader set-up. Use a 24" fluorocarbon leader attached to a 3o kahle hook. Use about a 1oz sinker (or heavier) to hold your bait down in the surf. Good luck.Top 10 Contributor
A:Â
Try it on a jig head but also on a standard bottom rig for surf casting.Answers
A:Â
Jig head is the best. Just rig it as you would all other softbaits and just jig it on the bottomTop 1000 Contributor
A:Â
Same as a from a pier or jetty. Ona hook or jig head under a popping cork.A:Â
A jig head, but a popping cork gets the best results for me.A:Â
Under a weighted float using a small jig head.A:Â
If you put them under a popping cork you can.Answers
A:Â
Absolutely, its the main way I fish them. and if that doesn't work a jig head will do the trick. The 3 and 4 inch do well but the 2 inch need weight.A:Â
I have a friend that will try it if we are running out of bait, but never seen him catch anything but a pin fishA:Â
Sure can, using an unweighted hook, no problem.Answers
A:Â
In the fall and winter when the stripers run up the river in fresh water here, we catch them on white gulp. I have also caught Largemouth bass with them and on the next cast catch a redfish on the gulp.Go figure.
A:Â
I have tried them a few time's with no success.A:Â
Absolutely. Catfish and bass will take shrimp all day long. Try it under a cork or carolina rig it and see what happens. Good luck.A:Â
perch, catfish, stripers, anything that eats shrimp and some stuff that doesn't. most predatory fish hit based on color and action so the saltwater/freshwater thing doesn't make a huge difference. i have done well with both in both types of water.
