Berkley Gulp! Goby
These have been my go to bait for a few years. I've caught 5lb plus smallies on them, walleye, even a muskie.
If you have gobies in the water they work.

Hottest Smallmouth Bait EVER !
Just got off the water today with my first bags of Berkley's hot new bait, The Goby . What a day ! I've used many of the Goby imitations, either Drop Shotted, or Carolina rigged, and this is by far the BEST I have ever used. When the Smallmouth hit this bait, they hold on to the bait SO LONG that it beyond belief. I was Drop shotting over 20' deep rock humps and wrecks in Lake Michigan, and Bays De Noc. I could not get them to go on our usual vertical tube presentation, and I knew they were down there. ( I dropped the camera on them) Out came the Gobies, and up came the Smallmouth!! Most fish were in the 3-4lb range, but we did have a brute or two follow hooked fish to the top.
I would highly reccomend these baits to anyone that fishes Smallmouth, expecially on the Great Lakes, to take a look at them.

No Goby for me
I bought this a few years back when they first came out and was greatly disappointed in their durability. I tried to tex rig them on "J" and "G" hooks and even used them as a jig trailer. They just would not stay on any hook I tried. So soft they fell apart after a few casts without a fish coming near.
Maybe the newer models are more durable, but from a few of the more recent reviews, it appears they are not.
I would say save your money and if you really have to have a Goby, Bass Pro has a few plastic offerings that look like the real thing and last a lot longer.

All I can say about the goby is that it is a great bait for catching fish but it doesn't last very long. The bass seem to love this lure, I use it in lakes with no gobies that I am aware of but lots of bullheads, and to me the brown color looks a lot like a small bullhead. I usually put it on an 1/8 oz. jighead. The problem is that the lure is usually destroyed after one or two catches, and that can get expensive if the fish are really going. As a result I usually use the gulp goby when other lures fail to produce.
