Stronger than mono, Berkley's improved formula FireLine casts farther and handles just as well—even better, in some situations. Improved formula FireLine ties easier, makes smoother casts, and stays hassle-free in any weather. FireLine is durable, too, and won't deteriorate over a lifetime, because ultra-light rays, sunlight, and even cold won't affect it. Made in USA

We purchased 3 spools for our spinning and baitcasters.
DO NOT USE THIS IN A BAITCASTER! Had it in two different Zebco's and it was stiff and chunky, to the point my 9 year old couldn't cast with it.
In my Mitchell spincaster, it was okay, but knot strength is an issue... I had a leader come right off on a cast, lost a guide's spinner bait. He thought it was my knot, so he tied one with an enhanced clinch knot, and pulled the leader and bam... off comes the leader again.
We had to double clinch knot it to get it to stay.
If I had to do it over again, I would have gone with a Spiderwire or something.

I generally like Berkley products but fireline crystal has been the exception. It is surprisingly stiff, casts poorly, has horrible knot strength (both for joining to braid as leader material and when using a palomar knot), and, well, was just not worth the extra money I paid for it. Glad it was on sale at the time or I'd have been REALLY unhappy. As it was, I stripped it off my reel and discarded it. The ONLY reason I gave it two stars is because people often discredit those who give just 1 star reviews.

I purchased this line in 4 and 14 lb test because these sizes are not available in suffix 832. I knew something was off before I even took it out on the water. When I took the 4 lb out of the box, I tried to break it with my hands with no success. Nice. Today I went out to do some fishing for northern pike on the river. This line casts beautifully (as good or better than suffix). First snag... because I was pike fishing, I was using a 20lb steel leader... big mistake. I gave up on my lure, wrapped the line around my hand a few times and tried to break it... ouch, wouldn't break. Then I wrapped the line around my hoodie sleeve and tried again... snap, Finally it broke. When I reeled in my line, at the end was a surprise... THE END OF MY LEADER! MY 20LB TEST STEEL LEADER BROKE BEFORE THIS 14LB TEST LINE. I retied without a leader and continued to fish. I snagged up about 5 more times, and retrieved my lure every time. The hook would straighten out, or I would bring in a 6 ft sapling, and I even brought up a piece of an old wagon. I hope my life never depends on breaking this line, because I doubt I could! The only problem I have is, I have 4 other combos that are equipped with suffix instead of this line. I'm very impressed, and cant wait to fill all of my spools with it! I would feel comfortable going after 40lb flatheads with this 14lb test.
