I bought this scale a year ago and it worked fantastically for the first season, but when I went to use it the other day, the display was burnt out. This has happened to some friends of mine as well who own the same scale. I kept it indoors in a controlled environment, so it wasn't kept in my tackle bag or car. I am buying another one and will see what happens.

I purchased this last October and it worked fine the few times I used it.. .I went to use it this past weekend and caught a catfish and the scale weighted it at 8.6 lbs... put it on another scale I had and it maxed it out at 16 lbs... When I got home I weighed a 20 lb dumbbell, and the scale registered it at 8 lb 11 oz... I'm not sure what happened in that time frame but it sits in my fishing bag and wasn't used more than once or twice last year

The scale worked great for 1 season (2013) but gearing up for spring 2014 the LCD screen was not working. I changed out the batteries and realized the screen was working but it was so faint you can barley make out the numbers. I checked the wiring and circuit with a resistance meter and everything checked out...cold or moisture must have zapped the LCD.

by AJHauser Great Product.
Not sure why there are so many negative reviews. I have performed several tests with hanging weights (3, 5 and 10 lbs) and the scale is accurate within 1 ounce +/- each time. I have not had the scale for a long period of time, so I can't comment on the battery life... but if this is going in a boat or even a backpack, be prepared and carry some extra batteries. This isn't brain surgery.
... and seriously, taking this to a tournament without extra batteries would be like taking the hooks and plugs that are already tied on to your poles and nothing more.
