Took some time to getting to know how to use these types of fish grippers. Overall, I've landed some good sized striped bass and halibuts. I've had my gripper for 3 years now.
I mostly fish saltwater and there lies my issues:
1) The metal tape measure is rusted out and now cracking. I've also found that tape measure is not quite accurate. Could be an issue if you have a marginal fish - over 1" off at 30+ inches.
2.) There's a metal pin that is part of the separation mechanism. It's popped out a couple of times, finally did a little metal roughing to fix it.
3.) I've had some difficulty getting the gripper around some of the larger lips (halibuts). The open area is only the size of a 50 cent piece. With funky mouths like a halibut, it's hard to get a hold of larger fishes.

I got this in the hopes of using it for big catfish. If the fish does any sort of twisting with these attatched, the jaws bend like tin foil. Maybe this was designed for smaller, less powerful fish but still. Also, the scale is grossly inacurate, up to 20 lbs

Unlike the other reviews, I had nothing but trouble with mine. At first it did work good but after using it for a month on bass and blues the rivet holding the jaws together fell out. The Item was replaced by Bass Pro but I had to pay shipping. I started using the new one this year and after the second trip and 10 fish later, the rivet again broke and the jaws went overboard. I threw the handle in afterwards and will now buy a real Boga Grip
