The Bass Pro Shops® XPS® Freestyle Jig was inspired by a Japanese jigging technique that uses 2 single-assist hooks, making it harder for a fish to throw the bait.

Bass Pro Shops XPS Freestyle Jig 4.6 5 28 28
Works for several fish varieties Was very skeptical of this plug, but a friend recommend that I try it. I have caught walleyes, crappies, white bass, and even a catfish on it. I get lots of strikes, but not all are hookups. Not the "magic bullet" but it works real good at times. November 3, 2014
Best new product around I was not sure if this was a new product or an older product, but it sure was an excellent pick for salmon and sea run cut throat trout in the Puget Sound. Out fished all other jigs. September 4, 2014
Was hot for 2 weeks. This was a hot lure for about 2 weeks for walleye. Caught several over 10lbs. Hooks do their job. Looking forward to using more this season. March 20, 2014
Best jiggin spoon ever I have been using 1/2-1oz freestyle jigs for about three years now, they just flat out catch anything that swims - the plus side is that the hooks don't foul your line like traditional spoons with a treble hook, If you can see fish on your graph, you can forget about needing bait to catch Striped Bass, Hybrids or White Bass. I caught a ten # Largemouth on a 1/2oz model as well. They have become my GO TO winter bait I just wish my OKC store kept them in stock - January 23, 2014

Do they work that well?

Details:
Are they effective when drifting over structure or through rips searching for fish, or are they only effective once gamefish have been found and attracted?

A:
It's one of the best deep vertical jigs I've ever used on white and hybrid striped bass in 15 to 35 feet of water. For clear water try natural colors or white. Works well for fish that are suspended or on the bottom. With a good depthfinder, you can watch it work in a school of fish.

I use a small duo-lock snap and attach at the end away from the hooks. It might be interesting to try it the other way!

I saw a Shimano rep fishing this lure on tv. He recommend you tie to the ring w/ the hooks. This keeps the fish from using the weight of the lure to throw the hook. I'm not sure why they have the rear ring, I guess to add a third hook if wanted. The show was salt water w/ much larger lures, but I'm sure it will work the same.
