Why call the Bass Pro Shops® XPS® Extreme® Trigger Rod Extreme? The word "Extreme" is somewhat overused these days, so with these rods, we’ve tried to stay true to the official definition, which is (according to Webster's Dictionary) "exceeding the ordinary, usual, or expected." We have packed every possible ultra-high-end feature into the strongest, most profoundly sensitive package, and still kept your investment under $100!

Here's what you get: We start out with an immensely powerful yet feather-light 60-million-modulus Powerwall™ IM9 graphite blank, then wrap the butt section with a new diamond weave carbon fiber to enhance lifting power. We top the blank with virtually frictionless, mirror-polished Fuji® aluminum oxide guides, and we finish the blank with the most durable clear-coat available. The grips are turned from ultra-premium-grade cork, with our exclusive PowerHump® handle to aid in balance and enhance fish-turning power. The full-contact, Soft Touch reel seat puts your fingers directly on the blank so you can feel even the softest bite. The result is a fishing rod that is farthest removed from the ordinary, that is anything but the usual suspect, and that far exceeds what you expect from a rod at this price point. By definition, these rods truly are extreme! Three piece travel rods include cordura covered travel case and nylon rod sock.

  • Feather-light 60-million-modulus Powerwall IM9 graphite blank
  • Diamond weave carbon fiber wrapped butt section
  • Fuji aluminum oxide guides
  • Durable clear-coat finish
  • Ultra-premium-grade cork grips
  • PowerHump handle
  • Full-contact, Soft Touch reel seat
  • Available in travel rod model

PowerHump Handles:
Our specially contoured, premium cork handle design gives you enhanced leverage and an increased sense of confidence during the battle!

Fuji Aluminum Oxide Guides:
Polished to a mirror-like, friction-free finish. Extremely durable; precisely spaced for perfect line flow.

Full Contact Soft Touch Reel Seat:
Lightweight, rock-solid reel seat locks your reel in place, and the blank-thru construction puts your fingers in direct contact with the blank for the utmost vibration transmission.

Great rod This is one of the best pieces of equipment that I own, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for quality equipment without breaking the bank. July 23, 2013
Extreme Performance I got this rod as a fathers day gift to replace the tourney special rod ( which keeps breaking the tip off) i paired it up with the carbon black reel and spooled it with seagur 10 lb test , this rod is very sensitive and extremely tough, i fish lake st. clair for smallies every weekend and this rod has no problems haulin in 6 pounders all day i havnt heard it wince yet. its light enough to power fish all day, the best thing i like about this rod is how it ratchets down the reel so you can keep casting as hard as you can with no worries that your high dollar reel is locked in place. the carbon fiber weave near the handle awesom feels really strong. i have a kvd tour rod that compares with this rod. the only diff is the price period. thanks bps, this is your best rod ever . Rod snapped I purchased a 7'6" heavy rod and had it snap at the end of the grip on the first day. It felt great and handled fish well, but the fact that it snapped over-rules how it felt. I think this rod would be worth buying if you are using lighter weight tackle, but I don't suggest it for anything 1oz and over. March 12, 2012
The proof is in the catching I used my 7'6" Heavy Extreme flipping stick to catch the 7.21 pound fish in my picture. While the Extreme isn't the lightest rod on the market it is a solid performer and had all the backbone I needed to pull this big girl from the hydrilla on Lake Seminole. March 26, 2014

I've used mine for a few years fishing in the Delaware and Chesapeake Bays for Striper since the first one was made years ago. I just rinse them with fresh water, and a couple times a year I coat all my rods with Aero Space 303 to protect the rods surface from the Uv rays from the sun. Keeps all my rods looking new, and the epoxy coat over the thread wraps from cracking. I use my rods hard, and they hold up fine.
I love the Extreme spinning rods also, but I've learned to switch out the tip top guide with a model that has more bracing for the ring, as mine bend from going in and out of the rod storage box in my boat, and a few have broken at a bad time.

Personally I recommend the XPS Extreme rods, these are good, sensitive, high quality rods. I'd go 6-1/2 ft MH for both the worm rod and spinner baits.
I'd use a 6-1/2 ft Medium for crank baits.

I would suggest a 6'6" to 7' length. Medium to medium heavy power. And then a fast or x-fast action.

Hi, thank you for your inquiry. For Topwater lures, a 6’ rod works great for walking baits and spitting poppers. A 6’6” for long twitching and a 7’6 for frogs and rat lures.

Yes, I've thrown 2+ oz. striper plugs with 30# braid without a problem. In my opinion these rods are nearly bullet proof.
