Excellent grub for smallmouth......color selection is unmatched for river/wade fishing. The only reason I didn't rate it five star is the durability, after catching a few fish, the grub starts to slide off the jig head and you have to bite a little off the body and re-rig it. My favorite color to use is the "smoky black", but I like to call it the "black copperhead". It is a dark grey with black/copper flakes. The smoke/copper/red flake and black magic works well too. I have caught hundreds of fish on these brand of grubs and have no intentions of switching to any other brand.

I bought this after Mike Webb recommended it at a Bass Pro event. It has become my go to bait for our local lakes. I use #22 Smoke with copper fleck.

I have used these grubs a lot during the early Spring. They are an outstanding bait for Smallmouth year around but seem to get me the best bite in the earlier part of the year. I like to fish them with a stop and go retrieve on a standard round ball jig head. Fish usually hit it on the fall.
I tend to use these baits a lot when I'm taking someone new to fishing out. They are easy to work, inexpensive, and catch a lot of different species and sizes of fish. Great bait all around.
Only negative is that they are not very durable. but for the price you can buy plenty of them.

the description says anise scent but the catalog says that all BPS plastics now come with 8up scent. which is correct?

as far as I know if plastics are scented so be it. I use Berkly Powerbait walleye scent for I fish perch and perch and walleyes travel together.Anise has a distinctive scent so just smell the grub and you will know. The grub i buy i say they don;t but who am i to say and if the product works don't fight it use it as i do. 8up scent i have no idea.
